"This restaurant was a highlight of our trip to the Alsace wine country region. Charming, delicious food, and great service to boot. As vegans, we had prepared to not eat out, and had packed sandwiches with us. Preliminary research indicated we wouldn’t find much food available that was vegan in the area. We literally stumbled upon the place while waiting for our friends to get a pretzel from a shop across the street. We initially suggested it for our friends who are vegetarian and whose MIL doesn’t like to stray from simple dishes, like pasta. Then we realized there were a few vegan options on the menu, and the decision was made.FOOD: Awesome. Server recommended the two dishes we were eyeing: Mushroom risotto and Choucroute. Normally I am bored by risotto and would avoid ordering it unless it was at an Italian restaurant known for its risotto. I took a gamble and it paid off. It was one of the best risottos I recall eating, and on top of that it was vegan. My husband loved the choucroute as did I. We never expected we would have been able to enjoy a take on traditional Alsacian food. The various smoked fake meats (tofu? Seitan?) were delicious – not dry or one-note. The sauerkraut was particularly memorable – and so unlike the krauts we are used to in the United States. I had the house wine and thought it was a great day drinking wine, and not very sweet, which was what I had been concerned about. Prices were also reasonable. WAITSTAFF: Incredibly friendly, helpful and charming. Politely accommodated someone’s request for changing a sauce in an item. The restaurant got really really busy during the lunch rush, but we still got great service. Given how busy it was, I would assume the place has a good reputation locally. BONUS: We ate outside and got treated to a few visits from the neighborhood outdoor cat. As it was a brisk 45-50 degrees, the restaurant server turned up the temperature on the patio heater, and we also used the outdoor blankets the restaurant provided us with. Also nice bathrooms here."
