"Alium is all about food, the decor is a bit bland, service is good enough (and not irritatingly showy as some foody places are). But the food is exceptional, especially at this price point. Between two, we shared 4 small plates and a shared assiette of desserts plus a decent bottle of wine for a shade over £50 each. Each dish was fine dining quality, the confit duck with mango and curried sweet potato puree was exceptional as was one of the best cooked fillet of mullet I have ever had (beautifully crispy skin and fall apart moist flesh served with a bisque). I liked the small plate menu with the expectation of sharing, which means you end up with your own custom tasting menu, I would have struggled to choose just one dish. People with large appetites would probably want a plate or 2 more than we had, but with each dish around £10 hardly bank breaking. If you want imaginative uncompromisingly good food without pretension, this is the place"
