"If you're looking for the ideal spot to have a chippy with a view during a day out at the Lakes, this is it. Situated right in front of Ambleside Pier if you're alighting from a cruise, and right next to the Waterhead bus stops where you would get off the 555 (long distance) and 599 (open topper), the location is certainly convenient. As for the food, can't say much about the fish as I wasn't that hungry at the time, but the chips were excellent. Fried perfectly with just the right mix of crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, the chips alone will be more than enough to fill you up for lunch with generous portion sizes, especially if you go large to share with a friend or two. What's more, you get plenty of outdoor seating available on a deck offering stunning views of Lake Windermere as you tuck into your chips."

Great food, served hot and the fish is fresh. It’s got an outdoor seating area with a lovely view, overlooking Windermere. Very good value for money, as well.

We love a good fish and chips. The service is great. The fish is fresh and chips good baked in clean oil. Portions are large and satisfying. Beautiful views of the lake and surrounding area of the pier.

Expensive for a chippy but nice food. Extremely slow service. The entire seating area was taken up with people waiting up to 40 mins for food. For a prime tourist hotspot this should be a much slicker service.

Excellent fish chips, wonderful folks who served us. No issues with Halal as its fish and the batter is without beer. Had a good conversation with the kind folks at the shop and was surprised with a cup of hot chocolate, on the house! View is superb, location is good (fronting the Ambleside Pier).

The restaurant is situated near the lake which is great. They don’t have sit down, you receive the order in a take away container and then you could sit down. The fish itself was really good it’s fresh haddock. However, I feel like you should not pay for ketchup or sauce when you pay for a dish. So that was disappointing, you can purchase a small tomato sauce. Also they don’t have any toilets so you have to go somewhere else and the public ones you have to pay to enter.

Visited for chips and coffees and chose to eat in while watching activity on the lake. Great views from the window. Generous portion of tasty chips which we shared; vinegar and salt available on tables to add as preferred. Some tables with chairs, some high bars with stool seating. I was more comfortable on a chair, being short. Someone moved immediately to free up a table for us. Customers and staff friendly, took our order and gave us a buzzer to alert us for when food cooked. Fresh chips served quickly. Very welcome on a windy afternoon.

"Staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. They were also very kind to our dog. We had drinks and food and though the drinks were good, the food was not. The words 'frozen ' and 'microwave ' were forefront in my mind throughout. The mash potato I had with my pie was face meltingly hot suggesting the microwave was used, and my wife 's battered fish was mushy and watery suggesting it was deep fried from frozen. The batter was also only about 1mm thick and was like wise mushy. The meat in my chunky steak pie was definatly chunky but was a little too firm (not tough, just not tender. Probably the wrong cut of meat rather than badly cooked). I then had the caramel apple pie as did another member of my party. While his was hot, mine was cold. I had mine with cream which when it arrived, had bubbles in and was luke warm. What I think happened was that mine was microwaved first and then drowned in cream and left to sit while the other was microwaved. This mean mine cooled in the cream while the cream warmed. It also meant that the pastry on the bottom went soggy, and from the rest of the pastry, it didn 't seem like it had much crisp to begin with. Now I know that times are hard and pubs like this can 't be expected to make everything from scratch, but there are 3 other pubs close by and unfortunately this one is doing nothing to stand out from the others, in terms of food anyway. Overall, a nice place for a quiet drink, but I 'll not be back for the food. The only saving grace was the price; £80 for 2 rounds of drinks (1 pint, 1 coke and 2 halves per round), 4 mains and 2 desserts...I suppose you get that you pay for though..."
