"Au Cabanon has been a favourite for a few years now as a place for us as vegetarians to visit with hardened carnivore friends. Therefore, I am delighted to say that the change of ownership this year has seen the restaurant build on the past with new dishes and wines whilst retaining the best of what went before. It is the best place to eat in Puycelsi and worth detour. The setting that others have described means that this is a place for good weather and, with room for around 25, it is wise to book, particularly in high season. The web site is informative by the way and an easy way to book if, like me, your French collapses on the telephone! They respond very quickly. The menu is short but being a two-person operation, this is a good sign. The dishes are straightforward. But the chef prepares and presents them very well and some that we have had this summer have been exceptional. The menu now changes regularly and this reflects the fact that they use local and seasonal products. There have always been some of Gaillac’s better wines at Au Cabanon and the new owners have further developed this area too. Most are ‘bio’ from small produces and I have enjoyed the delicious Babylon Sunday (a rosé) by Marine Ley (Vignereuse) and a glass of ‘bules’ to start (L’Angelou’ from Jerome Galaup. As I have said, this is a two-person operation so service can sometimes be slow when they are busy but not excessively so. The point is that if there were more staff then the prices would inevitably be higher and the chef will often serve his dishes and is more than happy to discuss them."
