"We took my Mum and Dad for Afternoon Tea at the Woodlands Park Hotel as a treat to celebrate their recent 90th and 95th Birthdays. The food and drink was excellent but the service was very disappointing in two respects. Firstly we arrived in good time for our 3.30pm booking slot but I stood at Reception desk for a full 10 minutes and was completely ignored. The one member of staff behind the desk was sorting out an IT problem over the phone and completely blanked me not even an I 'll be with you in a minute . After 10 minutes I set off round the hotel to try to find any member of staff who might be able to tell me where we needed to go (the website suggests that Afternoon Tea can be taken in any one of three rooms but our reservation confirmation did not state which). I found a member of staff and was directed to the Oak Room. The second disappointment was that the two staff serving Afternoon Tea clearly had no idea about the etiquette if taking afternoon tea . We were given our pots of tea a full 10 minutes before any food arrived. Eventually I had to ask one of the staff when we might expect some food (by now we had been at the Hotel for 40 minutes). It is not unreasonable to expect food and drink for Afternoon Tea to be served at about the same time. None of us wanted to drink a lot of tea first and then not have room for sandwiches and cakes. The other disappointment was the general decor in the Oak Room. It lacked the special atmosphere which you would normally expect for a formal Afternoon Tea. I 'm sorry to say, but I cannot recommend this venue for Afternoon Tea."

The food is very good with large parts of the menu locally sourced. Portions are not skimped. The price is quite reasonable for this kind of hotel. The meal service is also more than acceptable

Went to to Oak Room restaurant at the woodlands for our anniversary. It’s really gone downhill we’ve had some wonderful meals in the past but this was a bit second rate (overcooked and tough steak, bland pâté, very slow service). All in all a bit of a disappointment I hope things pick up again as it used to be lovely but is now little more than pub food at very premium prices shame.

The meal at this restaurant was very average, perhaps even poor. We went there for our anniversary, as we had our wedding reception there. The starters were very basic but acceptable. However, my main course was not hot enough and lacked flavor and seasoning. It wasn't terrible, but it fell short of my expectations for a restaurant. I believe I could find better food at an average pub.

Came for a birthday meal recently, the service was fairly ok but the food was terrible and it cost a fortune. The meals were dry and flavourless and didn't taste fresh, but somehow they took 45 minutes to come out (we were the only people in the restaurant). The dessert was inedible and we were served gone off cream. Our server was lovely and apologetic, the only reason I'm not giving it 1 star, and did make it up to us. However based on all this we wouldn't return and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

The restaurant, located in the Woodlands Park Hotel, is named after its beautiful oak panelling. The menu offers something for everyone. The Maitre 'd' was pleasant and knowledgeable, but we had to wait an hour for a scallop starter, which was unacceptable. We were informed that the kitchen was busy with a wedding party, making us feel like we were not a priority. Apologies were given, but they felt inadequate. However, when our food did arrive, it was well-presented and tasty. The wine list was extensive. Overall, we were not very impressed with the customer service, but the staff were lovely and the food was good.

So my family treated me for my 50th birthday to High Tea, very disappointed on the quality of the food! Had Hair in the scone, the Jam was runny the filter coffee was very wishy washy! The service was poor and very expensive for what you get! Also some tried to pay in cash and some by card they refused to accept cash and made us get one of the party the pay on card for that person to take the cash! When my sister booked she wasn’t told they don’t accept cash! Forgot to bring out my birthday cake that my family had bought along and had to be asked to bring it out just before we left. Would I go back NO is the answer!!!

The chef at this restaurant should work on creating more varied and appealing dishes. The dinner was okay, but it felt like something you could find at any pub. The dishes lacked both excellent taste and attractive presentation. The dessert was disappointing, resembling something you would find at a breakfast buffet - a thick layer of coconut yogurt with store-bought granola and three frozen blackberries. The blackberries weren't even defrosted. Even a small, unknown restaurant in London offers more diverse and better-presented meals than this place. If they want return customers, they need to update their menu and offer more creative dishes. The service was pleasant and mostly good, althoug...

After experiencing many afternoon teas in Surrey and London, this is by far one of the worst I’ve been to unfortunately. Beautiful location and picturesque building but sadly there was no atmosphere and very poor service. Firstly after requesting for quiet background music during afternoon tea and getting that request denied, it was so quiet that we could hear everyone else’s conversations and chewing of their food. The sandwiches were crustless and very small; flavours were fine but nothing exciting salmon; egg; tomatoes and then cucumber. Scones were tasty and very large which was a plus. Cakes melted in the sun by the time we got to them nice variety but nothing unique (eclairs/brownie/le...

"Obon: a petit Japanese udon restaurant that supplies a sense of Japan that cannot be found anywhere else in the whole of the Uk. (5 stars) Location: Obon is located close to the heart of Kingston but the road it’s on is considerably quieter. You must make sure to have a basic knowledge of Kingston in order to find an area to park and to also make sure you leave yourself enough time, taking the unpredictability of the traffic into acount. Even on a week day there can be traffic jams which can put a halt to your plans and due to the small amount of customers Obon can take its important that you not only book but make sure that you arrive at the agreed booking time. With this being said the staff are all lovely so if you are running late, a quick call is all that is required to just give Obon a chance to understand your position. The food: The array of exquisitely prepared sashimi will be sure to create the sensation that you are in a top Japanese restaurant in japan and the flavour of the fish does not fail to match expectations, which will be very high after just one glance at your meal. The fish is delicately seasoned and practically melts on your tongue, this causes a lovely sensation and is genuinely the finest sushi I have tasted in the uk and even matches a lot of the top restaurants in japan. On top of just the traditional types of sushi, which to many is maki rolls Obon also offers many other delicious options such as soft shell crab and even Unagi don, which I must highly recommend due to it consistently being the highlight of my meal. For those of you that were interested in the quality of the basic Japanese dishes such as miso soup or edamame they do not fail to leave you in grand anticipation for what is to come for they are, simply speaking, incredibly good. The miso, in my opinion, is truly remarkable and creates a lasting feeling of warmth throughout your entire body, on top of that it is far superior to other miso’s that I have tasted in all other areas of the world. Overall the quality of the food is something you would expect from a world famous Michelin star restaurant and if you want Japanese food it’s the only place I can recommend. The Restaurant: The restaurant itself is small but authentic in nature and because it only has a enough tables to host around 20 people at the most, the service is exceptionally good and your food is always out quickly so you will not be left hungry for very long. The staff are kind and friendly. And it’s always an enjoyable experience being waves goodbye as you leave the restaurant. You’re also able to watch as they prepare the food, which for some could be entertaining. There are Japanese photos scattered around the room and this further creates an authentic feel. The atmosphere is not lively but it is a restaurant and not a bar so is an ideal location if you are wanting high quality food. With this being said it is still a great place to go with friends and I consistently am able to have a great time no matter the occasion. Price: Obviously, the price of the food is always an important topic to come to and despite the cost of the sushi being slightly higher than you may expect from a small restaurant in Kingston, I would have to say that for the quality of the food it is ultimately a bargain. For three people, you would be spending around £100 so it isn’t cheap but you can go for cheaper types of food such as udon, which is still amazing quality and won’t set you back as much money. Overall: Obon is still my favourite restaurant in the whole of the Uk and is perfect for a special occasion but it isn’t the sort of place you’d go for a casual night out. The food is beyond incredible and thus they can cater for both children and adults by meeting every bodies needs. For anybody that enjoys sushi, I would urge you to give it a go, you won’t regret it"
