"Asquiths is undoubtedly one of the best restaurants for fine dining I have experienced. The menu is interesting, appetising and giving enough of a varied choice without being too brief nor too complicated. Every course was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The portion size was perfect, I feel, with the protein taking pole position...nice. Although it 's fairly pricey, I would say it 's fair as everything, from pleasant efficient staff, to well served, amazing food warrants paying slightly above average and is well deserved. Something I found particularly intriguing is the decor/atmosphere; nothing wrong with it rather elegant in some ways, but some might think it austere. It got me thinking; is the decor intended to be a 'blank canvas ', so to speak, solely for the wonderful art displayed, or is it a demonstration of total confidence in the cooking in that it 's the food that speaks volumes, not the often unnecessary trappings decorating the surroundings....like it."

"Wow what a surprise this was! We live in St Austell but fancied trying somewhere different for dinner, the pub has a really nice traditional vibe to it, the staff are super helpful and the food is absolutely incredible, lots of gluten free options and some really nice specials, the tomato soup was easily the best I’ve ever had and my husband was very impressed with the burger. Plus it’s dog friendly! We will be back! Service: 5"

"Very upset. Two weeks after having a pre-booked lunch here I receive a £100 parking fine for parking in the pub car park. No doubt there are signs telling you to do something or other to avoid this but I was intent on getting in in time for the booking. I feel that, at the very least, the person booking us in should have checked whether we had come by car but I felt at the time that they were a little offhand. Very unlikely to return. Service: 1"

"We just had our second visit to The Crown while visiting family, and we can't find any faults with it. The room was clean and tidy, making it feel just like home. We even enjoyed complimentary clotted cream biscuits. The breakfast was delightful, with options for a cooked breakfast as well! We dined in the restaurant twice, and we loved the fish and chips, as well as the delicious Sunday roast. Don't miss the treacle pudding with clotted cream—it's a must-try! Although it’s a bit off the beaten path, it’s definitely worth it. The landlord is fantastic, and the staff are friendly and attentive. Be sure to try the cold river cider; it's incredible. "As soon as we walked into the bar we were made to feel exceptionally welcome, with patrons chatting to us and the landlord warning us there was a band in that evening. That was actually the reason we were staying there! A lovely barmaid showed us to our room which was tastefully decorated and had a fridge, hairdryer and led onto a large en suite bathroom which had small bottles of shampoo etc. There was a towel in the landing to dry off any dogs that might have been staying which was a lovely touch. It is an old building so you could hear distant chatter from the bar below but it wasn 't a problem for us at all. We went down and ordered dinner which was absolutely amazing. We had the medium veggie pizza, cheesy chips and garlic bread between us and just couldn’t finish it all. Their portions are enormous ... you 've been warned! All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. There was a choice of Rattler cyder on tap and Cornish Tarquin gins as well as Korev Cornish lager. The band (The Claze) played out in the back courtyard which was under cover and had lots of seating, heaters and lighting. It was a great atmosphere and was the perfect setting for a gig in any weather. We preordered 2 veggie breakfasts and when we came downstairs in the morning we were delighted to see they had BT Sports on and were showing the MotoGP racing. Breakfast was again enormous and delicious and the landlord and landlady were chatty and attentive. I would thoroughly recommend this lovely pub and we will definitely be back. The room was very reasonably priced and so was the food, especially when taking into account the more than generous portions. Thank you to everyone for a truly enjoyable stay"
