"Absolutely disappointed beyond belief. Why even bother opening and advertising that they do food? We really should have walked straight back out the door upon entering. But we had read reviews and really wanted to try this place. The staff were disinterested. Pointed to a table where we were to sit for our evening meal. We were given what can only be described as filthy sticky pieces of paper that were supposed to represent a menu. The table was dirty and sticky with drink stains. Nevertheless we proceeded to order 3 main meals. Over an hour later we still had no food and not once did anyone come over to the table to explain why. The place was by no means busy. There were 4 tables with customers! After approximately an hour and 10 minutes we asked if there was a time that we could expect our food to be ready. Bearing in mind our order was for baby back ribs, a steak burger and a chicken skewer. So not overly complicated. We were told that there was only 1 chef working!. And that the manageress would go and check for us. She returned to say that food would be ready in 5 minutes. Approximately 10 minutes later the baby ribs and steak burger arrived. We had to wait a further 5 minutes for the chicken skewer meal. When it did arrive the chicken was cold and absolutely cremated. So much so that the chicken itself had started to disintegrate and a powder of charcoal remains were on the plate. Absolutely disgusting and inedible. Our entire party left all the food and we went to the bar to pay and left. Disgusted, disappointed, disillusioned and would NEVER RETURN"

"The Plough and Harrow is an absolutely lovely pub. We visited as a party of seven with three dogs and were seated at a table inside. Our drinks order was taken really quickly and when we had an issue with one of the drinks they immediately remedied it. We ordered four Franco chicken burgers, one fish and chips and two beef burgers. The food came really quickly and was absolutely delicious. The chicken burgers were a whole chicken breast that had been lightly battered, with a delicious homemade slaw and the chips were divine. The beef burger was similarly really nice and had loads of fresh salad in it. Just wished the chip portion was a bit bigger. When the child's beef burger came the kids meal had more chips than the adults meal did, as they put them in little metal pots for the adults meals. The inside of the pub is lovely it has loads of fairy lights and old fashioned swirly light bulbs. The staff members were really helpful. There were lots of menus around so we didn't have to share and the whole pub itself looked really clean. The toilets were also clean. That was a good range of seating inside as well as outside in the beer garden and further down past the car park there's also an additional garden with seating. The Plough and Harrow is obviously very popular as it was very busy and we went. I can see why, we had a lovely meal and we'll definitely be going back."

"Our visit last night Thursday, June was not our first, and it won't be our last. Wadhurst has needed a fine restaurant like this and now seems to have got it at last. The menu immediately strikes you as on par...with the best in London, even if there are only half-a-dozen dishes listed. Last night, my wife chose the fish-of-the day, which was sole with crispy capers, samphire, jersey royals and lemon butter. I chose organic local chicken supreme with garlic, mozzarella, tomato and crushed potatoes. Mine was perfect, my wife's less so. The chef had been a little too generous with the lemon butter, or was it olive oil? There was one other fish on the list, and a vegetarian meal. The wines are very expensive, but there are some excellent beers available, our favourite being Harvey's best bitter. As for the general pricing policy, which has a lot of locals complaining, we think that for two courses or for three is reasonable. And perhaps this is a deliberate ruse to discourage families with noisy children in order to provide a place of rest for others. The waitresses could not be more friendly and polished, at the same time un-intrusive. We like the piped music, which is in the form of soothing songs with the level kept low. The new seats, too, are really cushioned armchairs. I would have liked the complimentary hot bread with butter to be granary, and I would have liked to see a side salad on the menu for a healthier meal. But altogether, every good wish is due to the owners Sussex Pass and the chef Adam Sear. We'll certainly go back, but we'll also keep watching them, for signs of their losing their nerve. Wadhurst, with some shops on the High Streets, badly needs them."

"We visited B12 for our grandsons birthday as he lives in Hailsham. The place was extremely busy and it looked like the staff were on the go constantly. We ordered our starters a mains and started having a chat between us. A full half hour later, we were told they didn't have one of the starters. Which was fine but to decide a full half an hour later it was not on the menu that night was a tad much. Surely, as soon as the order hit the kitchen, staff should have been informed and a replacement sought. Anyway, an hour later, we were starting to feel hungry and I think staff noticed and were sent over to get another drinks order from us. Another full 1/2 an hour later, the food started to appear. The starters were lovely and enjoyed by all. The mains appeared a short while later but right away I noticed the burger I had ordered, looked like it could have been used to shoe a donkey. To hammer the nails in. It was so hard, it crunched when I bit into it. No way was I eating that. So it was sent back. I was asked if I would like something else but as it had already been an hour and a shelf since we ordered, I decided not to bother. By this time, everyone at the table was so hungry they just tucked in and got on with it. It was only after the mains were nearly finished that we discovered that two or three people's side orders were completely missing. The staff only asked if everything was OK during the used plate collection. When it was far too late to do anything about any issues we may have had. They were informed of the issues and apologised for all the mistakes. No offer of compensation was received. We were extremely disappointed with the food and the service. Needless to say, we have decided not to go back to B12."

Abergavenny Arms Pub

"The Abergavenny Arms in Frant is a stone’s throw from Tunbridge wells, surrounded by stunning countryside scenery. The interior boasts classic country pub vibes, with cosy décor with an elegance brought by the natural lighting on a bright day. To start we had a Selection...of Homemade Breads with Cultured Butter and Marinated Olives. The breads were like an armadillo, with the ideal crusty outside but soft and fluffy on the inside. The cultured butter was heavenly, our particular favourite was the wild garlic butter which was a lovely green in colour and beautifully fragranced. The olives were some of the biggest we had ever seen and were deliciously marinaded. The starter of Roasted Scallops, Charred Cauliflower, Pickled Golden Raisins, curried Puree, Crispy Chicken Skin, which is a bit of a mouthful to say, was the incredible. The flavours worked together perfectly, the chicken skin was a personal highlight for the dish and tied the curry flavour of the puree together with the meaty monk fish cheeks. The Roasted 2 Bone Rack of English Lamb, with a Lamb Faggot, Braised Barley with Celeriac Puree Lamb Jus seemed a strange mix. To me, the dish seemed to have a lot of components that didn’t seem to work together. The lamb itself was delicious, it was succulent and tender, perfectly pink in the middle however, the lamb faggot was overpowering in a way that ‘trumped’ the rack. The braised barley was an interesting side, but perhaps would have been better paired with a lighter meat, such as chicken or even fish. The Abergavenny Arms serves quite possibly the best steak dish I’ve tried in a long time, and there has been many! The Roasted 40 Days Aged English Sirloin, Smoked Creamed Potato, Ox Cheek Croquette with Mushroom Puree Beef Jus is, in my opinion, worth every penny. Each component in this dish added to the overall feel of ‘fine dining’ with each part being just as important as the next. The steak itself was cooked to perfection, the medium rare meat was incredibly tender, and every bite melted in the mouth. The Ox Cheek Croquette is something that could be devoured on its own, with this dish, it really was the cherry on top! When you think of fine dining, you often think of tiny portions or that you’ll need at least 10 of each to feel full, but that is not the case here at all. We ordered a couple of sides with our mains, just in case! The Smoked Bacon and Leek Crumble was superb, it was creamy and flavourful and the crumble on top added a different texture, which was very welcome to the creaminess beneath. Overall, The Abergavenny Arms is a gorgeous country pub with a menu that compliments its charm. The staff are friendly, polite, and very conversational. You are made to feel very welcome here. We enquired about the origin of the produce, particularly the meat, and were assured that all of the meat is locally sourced, which adds to the sense of locality that the venue offers."
