"The Almonry is the official café and restaurant attached to Ely Cathedral, and is located within the cathedral 's grounds (behind the building). It 's small, picturesque café that you can relax at after a visit to this magnificent church. Seating out- and inside is limited, so during peak times you 'll probably have to queue for a while to get in. It seems easier to find a table outside, if you 're willing to deal with the wasps in the garden, of which there are many. There 's a board that warns you of that at the entrance to the café. I found this to be no issue at all, but if you 're allergic, avoid the garden. The food menu is mainly confined to various cold and warm sandwiches, which aren 't exactly cheap, but good. I had the Pulled Pork Brioche Burger , which was nice, and it came with a side salad and a dollop of sour apple jam, which greatly added to the flavour of the burger (It 's served separately). Yo can also pick from a variety of desserts. Generally good and very friendly service. If you 're a beer lover, you 're out of luck though: Only a bottle of the dreaded Sharpe 's Doom Bar is on the menu."

We had an excellent afternoon tea in the undercroft. The service was friendly and efficient and all the food was delicious.

We were lucky to secure a table for lunch as the restaurant was bustling. I thoroughly enjoyed my cheese scone, while my husband savored his gluten-free sandwich.

Cheese scones here are the best we have ever tasted. Elsewhere we have often been disappointed, but here the6 are crème de La crème of scones. Service great, lovely environment.

This restaurant is a great spot with welcoming staff, affordable prices, and delicious food. The standout feature, however, is their exceptional coffee. If you appreciate a quality cup of coffee that isn't the typical weak, milky latte, then this place is a must-visit.

We had a pleasant lunch at this restaurant, with reasonably priced and attractively presented dishes. However, the standard tomatoes in the salad were disappointing; it would be an improvement to use vine-ripened or local tomatoes when they are in season. We hope that the restaurant is able to hire more staff so they can make use of their lovely outdoor tables again.

We had to wait for a table for a while as there wasn't enough staff to clean the tables and then got asked if we wanted to share the table we were shown to erm no way! Service was dreadfully slow, they got my order wrong and I didn't get crisps with the tiny roll either (nearly £10 for a tiny roll!!! . Dreadfully overpriced and service was awful. Had to ask twice for the bill so we could leave. Go somewhere else!

The restaurant was very busy but the staff were very attentive despite being very short staffed and having a very rude American woman to deal with. I had speciality quiche and salad followed by date and walnut cake and a mocha coffee. My wife had salmon, prawn and avocado salad followed by millionaires shortbread and a latte coffee. All wonderful and well worth the money. We would definitely return when next in the area.

The Almonry is a traditional restaurant for light lunches, with a cathedral attached. It has a period charm about it which sets it above most of the places in Ely. There are plenty of outdoor tables in the garden for a fine day. The staff are extremely polite and helpful, although occasionally difficult to find. The light meal we had tea/coffee and Coronation chicken baked spud was a long time coming, and the spud was cold. The tiny pat of butter never melted. We only got a small jug of milk between us for a pot of tea and a large coffee. As a result the actual food and drink were disappointing.

We arrived and saw a sign saying that we had to wait to be seated. After waiting 5 minutes and nobody coming over we eventually had to ask to be sat by walking inside (signage unclear). Really friendly waitress sat us down and gave us our menus. We were then accused of taking a seat ourselves on a table that was not in use (due to low staffing only half the garden was in use) by the manager. I felt unimpressed with the service and almost unwelcome as we were sat on a “closed table”. This lack of staff communication from the manager led to me feeling uncomfortable despite simply sitting where we were told. Understandably they were busy and short staffed but this staff confusion re tables coul...

"We were here for a family reunion on Fathers Day. I was going to give 3 stars but having had no response to 2 feedback emails that I sent I have downgraded it. This is the honest feedback that I sent: I’d like to thank you for your help in putting our family meet together. We were pleased with the comfort and ambience of the area where we were sat. We also felt the staff were pleasant and courteous. The meals and the drinks received a mixed feedback. We felt that the vegetables and sauces were very good although a group of 4 were given a small dish of green vegetables to share. Some time later a request for more green vegetables was dealt with but the timing was not good. The fish and chips were commonly well received. I’m afraid that the other aspects of food and drink and most importantly ORGANISATION were poor. When we arrived a waiter came over to take orders of the people that had not placed an advanced order. 2 people at one end of the table asked about the ordered drinks and had to say what they ordered and their order was delivered. I was a little concerned that 2 coffees ordered for the sweets of Peter and Jenny were bought with those 2 drinks but they seemed OK with taking them then and despite all the complaints in this email I don’t want to find fault. At my end of the table the waiter told me that he would come to me with my order but he must have forgotten. Starters were brought for those few that ordered them and a waitress eventually came through to enquire if everyone was OK. I said me and my wife were still waiting for our drinks order. After another 10 minutes someone cam back with the 2 decaf flat whites that we ordered for the end of the meal. Unfortunately the waiter, who was clearly distressed to be told to take them back and bring the correct drinks order, wished to engage with me in a disagreement about where the fault for this lay in front of all my family. This did upset me. Eventually my ale and my wife’s wine was delivered to us – it had taken over 90 minutes to arrive and both the ale was tainted and the red wine not pleasant. In addition the 2 pre ordered drinks were brought for a second time! The poor organisation also meant the meals did not arrive in good time. After nearly 2 hours most people had not had a bite to eat. The meat was very poor. The beef was inedible (very tough) and the poor standards of both meats was fed back to a waitress. By the time that sweets arrived staff was particularly flustered. The sweets came so late that 3 of the people that had ordered ice creams had to leave to catch their train. Again our drinks were forgotten so I asked for the 2 decaf flat whites. These were eventually brought but they were luke warm. My wife felt embarrassed for the staff so she drunk hers anyway as she did not want another accusatory conversation in front of our group. I had to ask for mine to be replaced as I felt that it was unpleasant. That concludes my feedback although I should say that there were other deficiencies. You have been warned!"
