"I am loath to write poor reviews as I know how difficult it is to please everyone but I wish that I had checked Tripadvisor before entering this establishment. We visited during the Fringe Festival and therefore when our waiter told us of the list...of beers that were not available on their menu we were not too upset. We chose our meals and we did not wait too long for our food to arrive. That was when things started to go wrong. My Tomato and mozzarella salad starter was described as a taste of summer with four varieties of tomatoes marinated in a balsamic dressing with italian mozzarella and micro basil. What I received was a large bowl of salad leaves with small chunks of a fairly tasteless tomato and cubes of what tasted like the type of mozzarella used to top cheap pizzas. There was very little dressing not enough to cover the leaves) and it was disappointing. Not as disappointing as my friends peppered mackerel fillets salad which was supposed to be accompanied with artisan bread. The portion for the main course looked smaller than my starter portion, it was not peppered mackerel and it was only one small piece not the fillets described in the menu. We queried whether they had made a mistake and served a starter but we were told that it was correct, we were given a bowl of salad leaves when requested. I then ordered the chicken wrapped in bacon served with haggis fritter and mash. The chicken arrived minus the fritter, when I queried this with the waiter he questioned whether there should have been a fritter with it but he did return with a fritter and an apology ten minutes later. In fairness my chicken was tasty but you have to ask what is going on here. The food that is being served is not as described on the menu. A couple who came in after us left when there order was not taken. We would not return here, we did feel sorry for the waiting staff who were friendly and helpful, this is a management problem which needs urgent attention."

lunch here today (saturday afternoon). the place was empty so we had our selection of tables and the staff was very attentive. three of us all had sandwiches with suppe or chips. all enjoyed our meals and the price was very reasonable.

Popped in just to grab a sandwich at lunchtime. It was ok but nothing more than that. Ciabatta roll was a bit past its best and the portion of chips for £1 was pretty small. Then again the service was very good and it didn't...cost the earth.

that is a really good restaurant. most of the areros along the royal mile were packed and we went a block of the royal mile and this place was comparatively empty. the food was excellent and well prepared. the service was also excellent. her stick...open pudding is to die.

we thought we would stop for tea and cake. the service was soon slow. tees took about 10 minutes, they were not too bad. the cake lasted another 15 minutes. the swamps were very dry and the victoria sponge was the worst I had in...years. it tasted like a Tesco value that had just been defrosted and the sponge was so dry. it took a while until the waiter showed up, and as we ordered suppee and sandwiches, we expected a 10/15min wait. After 40 minutes I asked the bar staff if there was a problem with the order. she was very pleasant and recommended she would hunt after order. another 10 minutes later a passable suppe and sandwich appeared without an excuse or a discount or even a free cup of tea. very disappointed.

Poor service, had to ask for menus and ask to order. The waitress clearly didn't have a clue about food or drink offered. We waited 30 mins just to be served and another 30 for the food. When the food finally arrived it was dire,...cold fatty congealed bacon in my BLT. Fishcakes that were suspicious and soup that looked like water. Avoid like the plague as Edinburgh has far better restaurants on offer!

Ordered a salad on one of the hottest days of the year. mayonnaise than anything else, to the poinbt where the croutons were wet and slimy. Barely any salad leaves at all, a tiny bit of tomato, soggy cucumber and tasteless red onion. All...for the bargain price of £9. Horrible, barely edible food. Could have something to do with having only three (lovely) staff covering far too many tables. I won't be back. Speisekarte ansehen

The food is over-priced, it take too long to arrive, they were massvely under staffed, I felt because I was ion my own I was being ignored. I waited so long for the bill to come after asking for it I had to go to...the bar and get them to ring it up there and then. I was up for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and it was getting close to the time my next I needed to start queing for it. The food quality was O.K, but the menu was misleading (listing Haggis Fritters when there's only one), and they ran out of the drink I ordered.

Don't be fooled by its smart exterior. When we arrived we asked if they were still serving food as it was late afternoon. They did not understand the question which in retrospect should have made us run for the hills. However we asked for menus...and duly ordered. My partner order a starter and we both ordered main courses. Everything arrived together. No cutlery was on the table and the waitress arrived back with one set of cutlery for the three meals. My meal was stone cold my partners soup was luke warm. When I complained the waiter said sorry I will let the chef know and went to walk away. I had to call him back and hand him my meal. It was eventually replace. We watched other dinners an...

"new kapitel has caught my attention after I was on top ten on trip advisor only months after the opening in the oktober last year. that and the fact that it is open for my early january birthday, made it the perfect place to celebrate to become a little older. I was with the man and his family. the man is quite used to my taste and good to the kind of kitchen that would appeal to me for a special occasion; his family not so much and I was filled with shame as his mother scornful went through the menu trying to find something she would enjoy. I've eaten with the family of the man, and I know they enjoy eating, so I think it's a failure of the menu that it is not accessible. the benming always blooming and garnish can appeal to some, but for others it is overcomplicated and it is necessary to find a balance between the two. we start with the starters and I go for venison sour wort pithvier. the venison was underheated and incredibly dry, to the happiness the sourded a little moisturizing and so saved the whole dish, but the aromen were quite not clear, except the garnitur of plastered mushrooms I thoroughly enjoyed. for the largest part we chose a fish dish for our main,- sea trout, smoked muddles, petersilien and coast herbs. where the starter fell, the main recording is getting back. the dish is rich and creamy, and each element adds the complexity of the taste as a whole, without disturbing. the concept is now an old one, and it would be deceptive if it had not worked, as it would essentially pay with this place. I enjoyed my meal in new chapter, although I do not agree with it is stellar status under the hierarchy of edinburgh eateries. it is top ten position is just a flash in the pan of hot popularity, and in time it will be plated in the upper half of the middle stage where it belongs. and that is where it belongs, the dishes can be plated with a michelin star in understood, and the venue and the supporting media has the clean lines and empty slate look of fine but eat the team has a long gone to go if that is their real aim. at the end, although it was a beautiful meal, and cheap (at the moment I would not be surprised to see their prices slowly rise) and the man’s mother found something they enjoyed and that is the most important."
