"The Corbet Arms has recently re-opened and has been in business for four weeks. The bar area features a large television showing football, while there is also a spacious deck with views of Shrewsbury over the Severn and the A49 for those who enjoy passive smoking. The lounge area, although a bit too open, is decent. They offer a variety of lagers as well as three hand pulls for London Pride, Bombardier, and Hurricane. My order for a spritzer was served in a large glass of sauvignon blanc without the usual choice of soda or lemonade, which was refreshing. Although the steak and kidney pudding had sold out, the starters of prawn crayfish cocktail, goats cheese wontons, and ham hock terrine were all delicious and could suffice as a light lunch. The main courses of beer-battered haddock, red Thai chicken curry, and a steak and kidney pie substitute were all satisfying. The service was good and the cost came to just over £20 per person. We plan on returning to the Corbet Arms in the future."

A good place to eat in some lovely grounds which is quite close to the river. There is lots of space in all dining areas. They can cater for large parties, we were with guide dogs which they made very welcome.

We went for a family Christmas meal on Friday 8th December. We had a circular table, which was ideal for our family catch-up. The food was excellent and plentiful . Well presented and delicious. The service was 5* our waitor was very attentive but not overboard. The Ambience of Christmas atmosphere surrounded us.

We went for a staff Christmas meal. It was fine but where was your Christmas spirit Corbet Arms? A bit of festive background music, crackers on the tables? We had a fun time but it did not feel festive at all. Such a shame! The food was pleasant, however my Chicken liver parfait starter had been pre-cut a long time ago as it had gone grey in appearance. However, the thick cut chips were fabulous! A little more festive spirit required but on the whole, good food.

"Beautifull hotel, I guess one can call it trendy , but I just don 't understand how they can justify the price £130/night and that most of the time will go to £160 as they run out of entry level ones. So I guess the answer is there because people pay for it! But let 's just make some relevant comparisons Birmingham Grand literally in the heart of the city, brand new, 5* hotel, with all recently decorated rooms to the highest standard is £135 15 for breakfast. Needless to say rooms are air conditioned, fully equipped and genuinelly very posh. Hotel has lifts, has porters and the service is top notch. The Lion is barelly 4* just for trendiness alone, but the actual quality of furnishing is closer to 3*, has no lift and you will be lugging your bags up and down mutiple flights of stairs (and I mean multiple like 8 going up and down) trought narrow corridors to mediocre room (nothing wrong with it just mediocre) which isn 't even air conditioned. Sorry, I just don 't get it. That said restaurant is good fully fine dining if you are into it. Althought in my oppinion it doesn 't fit into the rest of the hotel. So it is ~3.5* hotel which is very youghtfull and trendy and then you get 5* fine dining with very tiny portions for the dinner (which is not criticism of restaurant, it is very good on it 's own). In conclussion I just don 't get what niche this hotel is filling, who stays there and why. The price for the rooms should be £75 95 tops. Shreesbury is not exactly prime tourists destination either (at least shouldn 't). But it seems it is working out for them, I just would not recommend it, I would not stay in it again and it is definatelly not worth the price. Neither in isolation, nor in comparison."
