"We went to the Wherry yesterday when in the area as Happy Cow reviews recommended and there’s little else to choose from around here. We enquired at the bar and the staff helpfully went to enquire in the kitchen about vegan options. We were offered a veggie tart or vegan burger/patty and we opted for the veggie tart. We waited 15 minutes for a table and spent a further 15 minutes queueing at the carvery. When we arrived to collect our veggie tart from the carvery we were told they had ordered the burger for us because THE VEGGIE TART HAS MILK IN THE PASTRY. I know it’s been recommended on here so I wanted to warn anyone going that the only vegan option is the burger which comes with a vegan gravy. The veg were nice (just avoid the mash both carrot swede and potato Yorkshire puddings, and the gravy they provide a vegan one) and the burger was more like a small slice of nut loaf. They do have a nut loaf which contains egg, so be sure you ask for the vegan burger. It was pretty depressing having to slowly walk past the meat at the cavery as the queue was very long and slow but it was Sunday and the place is clearly popular with meat eaters. There are no dessert options apart from plain fruit salad. I thought £10.95 for a small burger and some vegetables with gravy was quite a lot to pay, as we were charged the standard carvery price. I feel that vegans are never likely to be priority in a place like this. If you’re in the area and short on options, don’t mind spending a long time being in very close proximity to large amounts of meat, and are happy to have only one option to choose from, this is the place to go. We probably wouldn’t be going back anytime soon."

I noticed that the last review of The Wherry was in 2017, so I thought I would put in an update. They still do the Vegan tart, it was really good and there were a lot of veggies to choose between and the stuffing was really nice. If there was vegan dessert, I would give it five stars!

I was told that the only option was a spicy bean and sweet and secured it and the accompanying gravur were vegan. the baked was hard as nails, and there was a bean in the slightly seasoned ratatouille-tart. I made the mistake of pouring the grue on my food before I taste it. big mistake as it was bad. tasteless flour and gravy browns. in this day and age, it is pathetic that they offer so little for vegans. Yes, we can go somewhere else, but sometimes we want to dine with our meat-eating family. my family was appalled by my meal and we will not go back there.

I was told the only option was a spicy bean and vegetable tart and assured it and the accompanying gravy were vegan. The pastry was hard as nails, and there was one bean in the mildly spiced ratatouille tart. I made the mistake of pouring the gravy onto my food before tasting it. Big mistake as it was dire. Tasteless flour and gravy browning. In this day and age, it is pathetic that they offer so little for vegans. Yes, we can go elsewhere but sometimes we want to dine with our meat-eating family. My family were horrified by my meal and we won't be going there again.

The carvery here is currently probably the best vegan option in the Lowestoft/Beccles area. The nut roast isn't vegan but when I asked staff at the kitchen about this they kindly swapped it for a vegan veggie tart with vegan gravy for no extra cost, just had to go back to the kitchen in 10 mins (got my veggies in the meantime) and it was ready. The roast vegetables are all excellent and cooked in oil. Everything else in the carvery is vegan (including the stuffing) apart from the mashed potato, yorkshire puddings and the gravy (tart comes with your own anyway). I was very sceptical of this place given the bad reviews, but decided to give it a go, as there was nothing else in the area open at the time (seems to be other vegan places but their hours are terrible . I came prepared knowing the staff may not be well versed in what was and wasn 't vegan. One guy said the nut roast was vegan and having read reviews here I questioned it and was then told it wasn 't. A manager went to the kitchen to check and said the tart was vegan and that the veg was cooked in oil or boiled, other than the parsnip which had some honey on it, which is always a good sign when they know honey isn 't vegan : They had two vegan options on the menu, a burger and a pasta bake,...
