"Usually my wife is the one who fills up the comment cards, feedback forms and writes few words on tripadvisor of the place. Usually we are a very happy, cheerful and satisfied customer most of the times. But after this dinner at the Lakes Restaurant I had a feeling I have to write a review by myself. As I am an Italian person I love food (to eat and also to cook) enjoying wine, sweets and coffee too... So I have to say if someone is really passionate about to have a good dinner this place is not the right choice. Bar is lovely, bit outdated but does the job. We discovered on arrival the bar person was already half drunk speaking and laughing even more loud than the guests! And there was a young guy in blue vest, white shirt was kind of annoying too who could not stop saying to every single person around him he is very busy has to look after a big function but till we left the bar after our aperitif he was still hanging around and chatting to his co-workers. Not a problem at all, I thought someone else will looking after his guests... Lakes restaurant looks nice, good atmosphere but the problems are just started here... Sat down, got menus in hand bread arrives in few minutes, before we even opened the menu and had a look... Nice quick service, bread sliced, slightly warm, looks fresh and tasty! Lets choose some wines, then order some food. Wine arrives by a very professional waiter, Hugo. he looks smart, friendly, helpful and knows how to serve wine in a professional way. Well done! After this we had a look on the menu and realised the choices on the menu are very poor not seasonal and overpriced but as we are already here lets eat something! Starter takes ages to come, really disappointing, tasteless food, wilted salad and supermarket part baked baguettes croutons, and just doesn`t look appetising. Finger prints on the plates everywhere. Main course coming after a long wait too looks like a pub-grub, lukewarm, lots of gravy (I guess made from gravy cubes) very far from 2 rosette standard, very amateur presentation. But at least plate warmer was working as my wife`s plate was extremely hot, but not the dish, eh! Very disappointing food £14 apparently home made burger, must be kidding, please tell me which part of the dish was home made. I had the same somewhere else in a simple pub just few days ago when I went for a quick meeting with my colleagues and had a meal with just for £7 included a pint. We got offered to see the dessert menu but I was really sceptical to see the choices as I thought they must be the same quality as the previous courses or even just simply bought in from a local bakery so we said no to the waiter. Luckily he was trying to convince us to try some so as we were still pretty hungry so we accepted the challenge. I have to say that was the best choice of the night as they were so delicious and they looked amazing Vanilla brulee and Boxford farm cheesecake. The dinner was really disappointing, never thought food can be this bad at Stoke by Nayland, don`t think we would like to come back ever again or might be just for some wine and some sweet treats or might be just for the spa treatments. Food experience 0/5 but giving 5/5 for desserts so that makes 2/5 in overall Service 1/5 for the funny welcome at the bar plus the food runner had no idea what is going on but 5/5 for Hugo the Spanish waiter so that is 3/5 in total. Price 2/5 as the quality is not matching with the price. We still left some tip and did not complain on the night to anyone as they were major problems not just a little mistake which can be solved right away with a free coffee or a 10 off the bill. We don`t want to receive any free meal or our money back after this review and if management are still happy with everything just please ignore my opinion."

"Been twice before fine. Last Friday October 27th husband said shall we book the Bull for tomorrow? I said ask when is skate next on the menu? Husband came off phone said got skate today and lady said if any left it will be on tomorrow so have asked her to save you a wing and she agreed. Upon arrival went in sat down asked what drinks we wanted ordered. Same lady took our food order. Husband ordered Garlic mushrooms i declined a starter as did not know how big the fish would be, I noticed on the specials board skate done in frying pan with capers so said to husband better make sure if i can have in batter, Husband went to speak to this lady who was behind the bar area and she said yes no problem. I say with my drink why husband ate his starter and then we sat and sat and by the clock in front of us about 15 minutes. Then a man came up and took husbands starter plate away and we sat and sat and out came husbands steak and my fish/chips asked if wanted sauces said yes and asked for vinegar. Upon opening the fish to put the vinegar on having noticed the batter was dull and not glistening like should be this batter was like a suet crust that thick and dense. Nobody came to ask if all okay so ate the fish had better and put the rest aside to take home for our dog, I noticed people coming in through the other door and going to the bar and getting served and we were ignored, Then i waved my hand and a lady came over and i said this batter is awful thick and doughy and i can taste flour as though not cooked through properly. She said will tell the Chef. Whilst been waiting for attention had noticed another lady laying up a table in the distance as said to my husband laying for non existent people and ignoring us. First lady came back and i asked what did the Chef say she said have not spoken to her yet thought she said her, She said do you want to speak to Chef i said yes. Then this lady who had been laying up a table earlier came up and i asked her who are you ? she said what do you mean who are you i asked are you the Chef? Then suddenly this man appeared and said i will not have you being rude to my staff. I said have not been rude to anyone and he looked at my husband and said and you whistled at my wife. My husband is in his eighties why would he whistle at some middle aged woman and it turned out she was the one that took our order when we first sat down, Surely if my husband had whistled she would have said something to him unless she needs a mouth piece meaning her husband to speak for her. I said since coming in i have not got up Chef said i know and i went on have not left my husband and assure you he has not whistled anyone.. Chef said to husband if you have not i take that back then, Then went on he did not want any money for our food, I said about the awful batter he did not want to know, For the benefit of the few people eating and listening he was trying to deflect my complaint about the food and infer we were rude customers by husband whistling and me complaining. Forgot before Chef came out the first lady said Chef said there is nothing wrong with the batter. To which i said i am eating it and paying for it not him so he cannot tell me what is okay and what is not, Perhaps that was construed as being rude because he tried to tell me the same when he came out and i said do not talk to me like i am five. We got up to leave and then he said to my husband in future do not whistler at my wife as if we would go back there again this was after he had said i take that back then if you did not whistle my wife."

"Poor customer service. Family of four (two small children) in a queue behind another couple. Couple got seated at a four seater table despite three two seater tables being available in the immediate area. Got looked up and down at as if there was some sort of problem, oh, there 's four of you? Quick look over shoulder, oh, probably a 15 minute wait . I noticed a few seats in the lounge area and asked if we could sit there, which we could. A group of five was next in the queue behind us. They were immediately seated at a six seater table which highlighted another six seater table next to them. My partner asked to be seated at the free table and we was told we could. The lady was clearing the table and returned several times removing all the plates. We then waited another ten minutes but nobody came back. We had already decided what we wanted in this time and wanted to order using the app but we needed the table number so moved across to the vacant table. As we was ordering our food, the manager came over and basically told us off as if we were naughty children saying that we should wait for the table to be wiped down before we are seated. Being the customer, we were fairly shocked at this and didn 't know what to say. He then very abruptly said well, do you want me to wipe the table down or not? As if we should have already moved out of his way. Overall, the staff at Prado Lounge displayed very poor managerial skills in terms of seating people at adequate tables. Were then very slow cleaning a table to the point where we thought they had finished and were then very rude to us after we had sat at the table in question complaining that it hadn 't been cleaned as if it was some how our fault. Ultimately, the mistakes and tardiness of the seemingly inexperienced Prado Lounge staff resulted in my family and myself being criticised. It 's a shame as we have had good experiences here before. Generally the food is pretty good and comes out quickly which is what you want with two small children but this latest visit would make me think twice about going back there."
