"We decided to take the in-laws out for tea at The Potting Shed. I have visited a few times and I am a definite fan! With it's quirky interior and great food it's guaranteed to be a winner with guests. The five of us were seated in the back section that resembles a lawn, including park benches. So quaint! I ordered a coffee and David selected from the wide variety of pints they have on offer, settling on the Vital Spark. They feature local breweries and well as more random and unusual brands and can be ordered in the more sophisticated size of a schooner (2/3 pint). Service was quick and efficient and we were soon ordering our food. Going straight for the mains I selected the seabass with paella, calamari and gazpacho. David went for the burger. Not long passed until our food arrived and it came beautifully presented, definitely more refined then your usual pub grub. My fish was cooked beautifully and the gazpacho dressing was very zingy and flavoursome. David's burger was good and hearty and came with a fantastic coleslaw! I was slightly jealous I hadn't ordered the lamb as Jen's looked magnificent! We managed to squeeze in a dessert and I'm glad I did. The Potting Shed Windfall. It featured chocolate soil tumbling out of a terracotta pot and was packed with nuts and raisins. The sour cherry ice cream it came with complimented it beautifully. A definite favourite for me and I'll be back again soon!!"

"What can I say? Hemma is where the heart is, and I think I left mine there! I read through some of the other reviews here before we plumped for Hemma on the strength of its being so near to my current flat and I 've been meaning to head there for ages) and I was a little tentative since the response seems so mixed. But all I can talk about personally is the experience that we ourselves had and that experience was WOW! I came here for an impromptu lunch with my parents and all three of us got completely swept off our feet by the loveliness. Their little manifesto on the front page of the drinks menu sums up the unique feel of this place; it 's cheery, quirky, it 's friendly and good natured, and I love it. The food is fab value at just under a tenner for a decent main, and especially for the giant portions we got. I ordered the spaghetti with garlic chicken £8.50) and the mountain of deliciousness that arrived was almost too much for me to finish, but equally, too good to leave. My parents were both equally thrilled with their meals club sandwich for Dad, beef burger for Mum and having nicked a couple of their seasoned fries, I can see why. I don 't think I 've ever encountered those fries ' equal. Despite the somewhat intimidating and angular exterior, the decor within is homely enough to easily justify the name Hemma , being comfy and mismatched, and the windows which we at first glance had thought were some kind of chic stained glass mosaic) are actually creatively decorated with slides. The thing I got most excited about was the awesome drinks menu; every single one of the impressive range of cocktails on offer is not only delicious sounding but also wittily described, and for the meagre sum of £4, water voles like me can order a custom mocktail instead. I can 't wait to go back and try this one evening. Yep, they 've definitely taken my heart hostage, and I 've got full blown Stockholm syndrome."

"On a sunny, crispy December morning, it was time for the Yelpy Brunch at Hamilton 's. Well it was fun, staff were friendly and attentive, they coped well with our ever increasing table (well, we squeezed in as we 're a friendly bunch) and offering a separate brunch menu is a nice touch. As Jenny L explained, its not an extensive menu but it is full of 'brunch ' type offerings so does ok and offers big breakfasts, breakfast rolls, veggie and gluten free options. The gluten free option (one listed) is ok if you don 't have a problem with eggs. Yep, I 'm weird. I like omelet 's, tortilla and frittata but try and feed me an egg scrambled, poached, fried or boiled and I freak out. It can 't even be on the same plate. Luckily Hamilton 's cobbled together a gluten free option (bacon, beans, tomato, spinach, salmon and mushrooms) for me. It was ok, but 3 starts only as the spinach was really grainy. Like chewing on a mussel which wasn 't cleaned properly and getting silt and sand. I ended up leaving some on my plate as it was really off putting. Everything else was ok, but as David J mentioned, another rasher or two of bacon would have been great, so a very big plate, but the portions appear smaller. I would go back here not sure for brunch but poor Hamilton 's is probably being reviewed on the back of me weaning myself off Dottie 's in San Francisco where I became addicted to brunch (10 days since Dottie 's not a happy celebration). I think it would be a nice option for lunch with a group of friends and it seems to be dog friendly too so I think I 'll be back here in the next few weeks. I 'm not sure how GF it would be for lunch having not viewed the menu, but having some awareness of GF and allergies and this is noted on the menu, is a start and I 'm sure there would be a few choice items worth sampling."
