"From reviews and recent experience of being unable to book a table for the place being fully booked, I was pleasantly surprised when i phoned last minute on the off chance and we were able to book a Sunday dinner around 2.30pm , being told there was immediate availability. On arrival as a party of four we were amazed to find the entire dining room empty. We were presented with a 3 course menu for 10.95. In our experience this is cheap. Starters were white bait, black pudding with crispy belly pork with apple salad, breaded goats cheese balls with chutney or tomato soup. Main courses were beef, chicken, turkey, lamb shank or sea bass. We ordered the crispy belly pork, black pudding and apple salad which i found inedible. There was nothing crispy about the pork, it seemed to be part heated, the black pudding seemed re heated, tasteless and dry and the whole thing was drizzled in something that seemed to be similar to pesto. Luckily my husband ate both our starters and he didn’t have much of a problem with it. My daughter was offered fruit as she suffers with dairy allergy and was happy with that. My son had the goats cheese which he enjoyed but was surprised the ‘chutney’ was more of a tomato sauce. When the mains arrived after choosing 3 beef,1 chicken we were all disappointed that the potatoes were very large and uncooked in the middle. The cauliflower was coated with an extremely runny white tasteless sauce and the Yorkshire puddings were not homemade. The beef was tasty and my daughter was happy with the chicken itself. Gravy was good as was the other veg including red cabbage. For dessert we ordered Eaton Mess,Sticky toffee pudding , Chocolate Brownie and again my daughter was offered fruit with having an allergy, she was ok with this. The Eaton mess was not as described, it did not have a selection of berries but was strawberries, shop bought meringue and whipped cream and ice cream. The chocolate brownie was as expected with Ice cream, no issues. And the sticky toffee pudding was ok, served with ice cream. All desserts were served with homemade cinder toffee which was a nice touch, however in my opinion, it would have been better to make the meringues in the Eaton mess before adding unexpected extras. Same with the cauliflower cheese and red cabbage, we would rather the potatoes were edible and Yorkshires homemade before making extras such as these. The waitress service was very good, attentive and efficient. Overall though, we were dissatisfied and we won’t be returning. Only one other couple dined later on, during the time were there. The atmosphere was cold and lacked cosiness compared to the bar area with its many customers and open fire."

"Having previously enjoyed 2 family meals at the Fox and Grapes earlier this year I hate to leave a negative review. However, on this visit the food was the worst I have been served in a very long time. My son booked a table at the Fox and Grapes over the phone, when we arrived there was no record of our booking, however we were shown to a table. The table was located by a window which was rusty and there was water all over the window sill. It felt cold and damp. It was at least 30 minutes, and after a reminder, that someone came to take our drinks order. We knew that there was a large party in the pub and so accepted this delay. Having waited so long we placed our food order at the same time. I ordered fish and chips having seen another guest eating what looked like a nice meal. When mine eventually arrived it was cooked to a crisp the batter was chewy and the fish tough. Two of our party ordered the Steak and Landlord Pie, this proved to be a small portion of pie with uncooked pastry and only 3 small pieces of meat. My grandson ordered a chicken burger again this was overcooked and he could only eat the edges as the middle was tough. Lastly my husband had the beefburger which he described as gritty! The service, which had previously been a highlight of our visits, was also poor. When paying the £95 bill I did highlight that I was not happy with the standards. The very nice lady behind the bar apologised but no discount was offered, not that it would have helped as the food was so bad, I very much doubt we will return. The next day we had excellent food and service at the the Hawarden Farm Shop."

"Horrible experience. The owners of this establishment need to complete customer service training. One morning I called in for a drink and to use their loos. Whilst paying for my drink I checked whether it was OK that I had left my car on their car park without paying the charge since it would only take me a couple of minutes to finish my drink. The female bar staff member confirmed this by nodding and saying I suppose so . I quickly drank up and vacated the car park as promised. Fast forward 23.5 hours and I decided to go here for another drink. Naturally, I left my car on the car park whilst I went for a quick drink, assuming this would be acceptable since it had been the previous day. This time I was desperate to use the loo so I went to the bathroom first. When I exited the loo I was rudely accosted by a grey haired middle aged man and a female member of bar staff who expressed their utter shock I was in the pub. Shouting they inquired how I had been able to enter the pub and told me they were closed until 11am. It was 10.45am and I told them the doors were open so I came in. They spoke to me in an aggressive manner as if to suggest I had broken in! After a short and heated discussion the older grey haired man asked if that was my car he had just put a parking notice on. When I went outside I had a rude note on my car demanding payment for parking. I had only been on the car park for less than 5 minutes, the time it takes to park the car, walk inside and then use a loo. I was intending on having a drink and even lunch here but after the way I was treated I decided to get out of the area altogether. This is no way to treat paying customers. I 'm certain the bar staff would have remembered me since I had been twice on the previous day. In the extremely unlikely event I visited again I would use the free 1hr parking spaces nearby on Gamfa Wen or use the Gamfa Wen Car Park which is cheaper at only 20p for 2 hours. This way I wouldn 't have to listen to the obnoxious owners of The Point Bar and Restaurant! Ps. If the owners read this then I would suggest you keep your doors locked when you are closed like most normal business owners do."

"Where do you start when rating this place? amazing. Me and my wife come here a lot and we often bring friends here because we enjoy the food, atmosphere, waitresses and management. We have been coming here for about 3/4 years now and over that time the waitresses have changed numerous times, but recently they seemed to have stayed the same. But the food has always stayed the same, and if anything got better and better every time we visit. They have a range of different meal options for you that are priced differently, they offer a three course for £5.90 and a four course for £9.90. They then offer two different set dinners, four courses for £12.90 and five courses for £14.90 (make sure you don 't eat for a week if your having the five course because it will fill you right up!! . They also have al a carte menu, what more could you want? You have to come and try this amazing food for yourself, me and my wife don 't eat chinese from anywhere else, they even do a take away! However, we do only try to visit on certain days now, for reasons i will explain. There is Sarah, who unfortunately only works one day a week. She is just lovely, always has a smile on her face, copes well with the pressure of it being busy and is always on top form. Then there is Jess, who again only works weekends. Like Sarah, she is lovely, always on top form and always engages in conversation with all her customers. They are both so lovely and it is just a shame that they don 't work more! Then there is Kate, now where do you start? Kate works throughout the week and of a weekend, why? When you first meet her she seems so lovely and genuinely interested in what the customers are like and she really tries to get to know them. Well, don 't be fooled. We now try to not come in when Kate is working because we cannot cope with her 'in your face, everything is about me ' attitude. We have seen her practically naked in these new 'modeling ' photos, we know all about her home life, her children, new animals, ex husband and her new boyfriend! Its a shame, because everyone else here is just lovely! Sue and Edward the managers are always so lovely, always say hello and engage in conversation when they are not busy. And Frank, he is the old man behind the desk. If you take the time to get to know him he really is lovely, but sometimes he can be very rude, i put that down to being old and deaf. All in all, this place is so lovely and it is a shame that it is not busier sometimes. The food is amazing, I personally recommend their thai fish cakes, king prawn panang curry and their golden sands seafood, all amazing dishes that i have never tasted anywhere else! I cannot big this place up any more, you just have to try it!"
