"Wow. I mean... wow. I'm a massive fan of indian food (take a look at my reviews) and I will try every single indian outlet I can. The New Bengal gets a solid 5 star rating and is the single, most delicious indian food I've had to date. Ordered in (because we're Covid positive right now and self isolating) on a Thursday evening via their website, a lamb madras for me and a paneeri karma for her with keema rice to share and onion bhaji and pops. Food was with is un short order and piping hot always a good start! Unfortunately, she couldn't taste hers because she's lost the sense of taste and smell. I on the other hand have full olfactory and taste bud sensory capacity and oh boy am I glad I do. The madras sauce was sumptuously rich and with an absolutely perfect flavour, and filled with succulent pieces of perfectly cooked lamb which almost melted in the mouth without barely the need to chew. The keema rice complimented the curry with the gorgeous lamb mince and rice bringing the pilau flavour. The onion bhaji was a delicious crispy, chewy compliment, perfectly seasoned and the crunchy pops adding the extra mouth feel. Absolutely gorgeous. I know this review sounds like a fanboy's wet dream, but if you haven't tried this restaurant or had a delivery I suggest, urge, you to try it. Even if you have tried it before, or you've seen a bad review (I haven't looked) or been told not to, give it a try. I go to LOTS and LOTS of indian restaurants and have LOADS of indian take out, and The New Bengal in Gosport has just taken the top slot and I will definitely be ordering again or going to eat in. Summary: 100% 5 star food and service and absolutely faultless. You'd be daft not to."

"Congratultations and well done to the Castle Tavern, possibly the worse customer service I have ever experienced in 53 years. Bought two drinks 12 quid, bearing in mind The Star WETHERSPOONS would be half the price nearby for the same however....it looked a decent pub but after my money was taken by card we then realised no seating was available inside as Emmy was busy putting firmly on tables Reserve signs on all the empty tables like a bad version of musical chairs. Feeling slightly unwelcome at this point after delivering what looked like a good beer Timothy Taylor and wine, I felt the need to ask but where can my family sit only 3 of us. .....Oh you can sit in the far far corner Emmy says blankly....reluctantly, awkwardly and making me feel very unwelcome. At this point I'm a bit peeved after spending good hard earnt money needing to enquire how long have I got as it was clear no seats were available in the pub..... Oh you need to be out by 6 or well before says Emmy bearing in mind it was 5.15. So less than 30 mins. Why I ask, so Emmy declares this is because this is a restaurant and customers come in well before their meal so tables get booked up quickly...oK I get it but then why take my money then announce I have less than 30 minutes to sup up and leave. That is sharp practice ! It is contemptuous and poor ! But it's a pub I observe....no says Emmy it is not ! Apparently it is a restaurant not a pub anymore. Hang on....dont take my money in good faith then give me a limited time to drink. So I challenge this, but I'm afraid Emmy doesn't like this and asks me to leave. No sorry no explanation a bit shoddy really. So not happy, I asked why take my money if seating is not available but Emmy is taking our drinks away and cash plonked down in front of me as a refund....I paid on card so this looks like suspect money laundering now. Real shame, the pub clearly had punters just drinking, it feels like a pub, says it is a pub and when I called later the same day, I am told it is a pub, but Emmy says it is not. Bottom line pub or restuarant a name doesn't matter but don't take my money if you cannot provide a service which includes sitting down for an unspecified time, make the expectation clear upon contract of taking my money NOT after. Shocking. Ps Emmy was quite happy to use profanities about me to another customer when I left, totally unprofessional and beyond poor. I love a well run pub but rude indifferent staff can be the difference between returning custom or a exodus...to Emmy....your customers pay your wage don't treat them like something you walk in."

"We usually love going to this restaurant. It has been recently refurbished and is clean and well presented and the staff are helpful and polite. However on our last visit the ‘entitled brigade’ had come out in force and ruined what would have been an enjoyable meal. Who do I refer to? Why dog owners of course. You know, those people who force their pets on everyone else and also force their bewildered animals to crouch under tables and ignore all others including other dogs as if that’s going to happen! I don’t know who I feel sorry for the most, the animals or the people around them who have endure slobbering dogs trying to climb on your lap or breathe dog breath all over you and your food whilst you are trying to eat. It’s disgusting, unhygienic and antisocial but people put up with this bad behaviour because they don’t want to be labelled as animal haters. On the contrary I love animals but don’t feel the need to hoist my pets on other people. There was plenty of room for them to sit outside where the animals would have been much happier and so would the people trying to have a meal in such a nice clean cafe. It’s about time that normal humans are respected and not just those who can’t seem to function without their cuddle buddies 24/7. The exception to this is of course dogs who are doing their job as guide dogs etc. but you rarely see them in crowded cafes. Their owners know better and respect their dogs and others. It used to be against the law to take a dog into a place where food was being served. What a pity that law was repealed to the detriment of the many in order to please the few. I am unlikely to go back here any time soon."
