"Driving from Obernai to Metz on a very rainy Monday morning, we suspected our culinary journey would be placed on hold. Many restaurants are closed on Monday, and rural farm land produces fine products, but not many restaurants. With the help of the Michelin Guide, we took a stab at stopping at this fine restaurant without a reservation.In a village of less than 200 people, perhaps fewer than on our street at home, this delightful oasis is quite unexpected. Yet, it fully deserves its Michelin Star, and a forty year tradition of warm hospitality continues unabated.We opted for one of the less extensive (and less expensive) menus, but found the dishes beautiful, complex and thoroughly satisfying. A thick wine cart even offered some very nice half bottles, again our preference when we still have many miles to drive. The menu, of course, is in French, and the staff have little English at their disposal. Get over it! It is their country, and we are the ones who should be making more effort to communicate. At least we are fairly fluent in menus, and enjoy most everything.One of the best meals a month into this trip. We would be delighted to return. The vegetable tarte, which started our meal, was one of the most elegant appetizers we have ever tasted. We salute the chef and his staff and hope to try other dishes on another visit."
