"Have loved eating in this place for maybe 3 years, but have seen worrying changes in other favourite establishments post-lockdown, so popped in for lunch a few weeks ago, hoping that nothing had changed. I was to be sorely disappointed. I was particularly hungry so...chose a more substantial dish than usual – their burger. I was a bit surprised that the price had risen to nearly £14 – but I felt it would be really good, so… Sadly, it really didn’t live up to expectations. I mean REALLY. It was a mean, tasteless little thing; Birdseye frozen taste better. I glanced at the description on the menu again, as it seemed strangely familiar… “Chuck brisket burger”. As an ex-butcher, I know that there is no taste advantage with using these cuts – flavour comes from sex (beef steers, no cows); breed (definitely no Holstein/Friesians); age, hanging conditions, fat content etc etc. So I wondered why they had included it – to dupe Mr Average into thinking it meant something, I suppose. Then I remembered where I’d seen it before… TESCO stores were, at the time, promoting their “new”, wonderful… yup, chuck and brisket burger, on big signs. I’d already eaten a couple of them, and knew them to be indistinguishable from other economy varieties, but rather more expensive. I mentioned the burger’s poor quality and size to our waiter, and he expressed surprise as “we’ve recently changed our butcher”. Ummm to TESCO mate? I cannot prove that I was served a TESCO burger for £14, but if a butcher can’t tell the difference... I dare say TA wouldn't be happy about me posting a picture from the TESCO website, but you can Google it easily enough. Oh – almost forgot. Our favourite waitress (and possibly others) have deserted 81 for a rival establishment too. Everything has its day, and for me, 81 has had its. Sad."

"The staff were lovely bar who I 'm assuming is the manager. Bit of an odd vibe off him, felt the need to place us, a couple clearly out for a nice dinner together, beside a really rowdy table of 8 or more adults and children, so we could barely hear ourselves think never mind have a conversation. We were given a rundown of the sold out menu items aka half the menu including the chunky chips?? The food quality has gone downhill massively. I really used to love coming here but I feel now there are better places around that do better food and better portion sizes. Husband got the crispy dumplings and I got the brie to starts. The brie wasn 't cooked through and instead of it all pouring out when you cut into it, it instead had a jelly like consistency. I also don 't understand why they would put a random apple and chilli (apparently) chutney with brie which tasted like mince pies rather than the traditional, and much tastier berry style compote. Husbands dumplings had absolutely no taste whatsoever. Main course I went for the Chicken Tenby with skinny garlic fries and husband got the chorizo chicken with sweet potato fries. Tenby was lovely, although there was a random bit of lettuce that had obviously fallen into my dish before they heated it, not a big deal but kinda gave me the ick. The sauce of the chorizo chicken was sooo runny and again, tasteless. They still have the big covid screen up at the till so when we went to pay, the girl kept talking to us and honestly we had absolutely no idea what she was saying. All in all I felt very deflated after this visit, having always had a good experience it seems theyve gone downhill and I 'm not sure I 'll be returning when I know I can go up to blue Chicago and get a guaranteed fab meal every time."
