"we were around the corner in oakham and had luck finding a table here for our family celebration on a Saturday night. Despite the clever photos, the pub is located directly in the centre of oakham, opposite the church and with a public car...Park over the street. a really traditional pub where they resist the temptation to knock walls to create large spaces, beams at the deck and soft lighting all add to the atmosphere. a small bar and then a row of dining rooms, we sat in a room back with about ten covers, quiet and intimate. the menu is quite simple and much of it is homemade, aim to eat relatiw early to avoid disappointment, as the homemade dishes can run out. the employees were friendly and informative, efficient and attentive, without being intrusive. we ordered a mix of traditional dishes of fish and chips, gammon steak, chips and exalted and a few of the homemade dishes brie, broccoli and cauliflower bake and butternut squash macaroni cheese. teller were hot and food well presented, portion generous. eating was good, but not exceptional, but the atmosphere and the unobstructed kitchen did a lot to increase the experience. the desserts were delicious brownie and apple crumble and custard. if they are looking for a simple, honest menu, good atmosphere and not an expensive place, then this easily fits the bill."
