"We asked our hotel for a recommendation to eat the day we arrived in Sancerre and they recommended the Pomme d'or and rang to see if we could get a table, luckily we did as it was a Monday and not many restaurants were open, perhaps mainly to do with torrential downpour we had that evening. We arrived for our 7.30pm reservation and shown to our table, our first impressions were of the waitress being a little 'off' with us, it appeared that she knew most of her clients apart from us and another table and gave these people exceptional service! We were not put off and was given a menu, there was nothing in the menu for our vegetarian friend but there made her a salad. I had the beef and it was beautiful, the desert was very good too and we asked for a recommendation of a red wine as we had had white with our meal and 2 of our friends had cheese for dessert and fancied a glass of red, by now the locals had left and she came into her own recommending a 2009 Sancerre from a local winemaker and my goodness it was beautiful this has slotted into number 1 place of my favourite red wines. We took a picture of the bottle but were advised that the wine grower made this especially for this restaurant, we still tracked this wine grower down and bought our red Sancerre from him, not as nice as the 2009 but still delicious."
