"My sister and I stayed at The Jackdaw for 2 nights when attending a wedding nearby. Lovely big caravan, 2 bedrooms (1 double, 1 twin) 2 toilets and separate shower. Stayed self catering BUT with free breakfast fridge was stocked with all you'd need for a full English breakfast!! Plus bread, butter, milk, tea, and coffee to get started. The owners, Lillian and Andrew are friendly as are the pub locals. We had Sunday lunch to finish our stay beautiful, freshly cooked and large portions! A couple at a nearby table had dessert and shared one portion! We will definitely be visiting again! Thank you Lillian, Andy and staff for making our stay happy and relaxed."

"We have been before and it was brilliant. However this is the last time I will be eating there again. The waitress was very rude and dismissive the whole time we were there. We ordered the T-bone to share and weren 't given the opportunity to tell them how we prefer it to be cooked. The steak then came blue massively underdone to our liking. This is not to say it wasn 't a top quality cut of meat because it assuredly was. However I was not willing to pay £95 for a steak that wasn 't cooked to my liking. After a rather long wait for the waitress to come back and ask how our meals were I ended up having to get up and go to see the manager to tell him I was unhappy with the meal and also the service, to which he replied, I 've been down to check on you 2ce and you never mentioned it then, what 's wrong with it now ? After which I told him he hadn 't been to check on us, as we had only just received our meal and that the waitress has been abrupt and rude all evening and that she hadn 't even asked how we would like our steak cooking before she disappeared off in a hurry. The waitress then joins the conversation from over his shoulder and said, I did ask and you said medium rare , which I wouldn 't have said as I prefer medium for that cut of steak and more to the point even if i did ask for medium rare the steak was blue! The managers response to this was to tell me to just pay for the drinks and not the steak. Rather than rectifying the steak and the service problem. After realizing I wasn 't willing to finish my drink but more than happy to pay for it he told me it 's fine and to just go. Safe to say it spoilt our evening. We drove an hour that night to enjoy a nice steak but went home hungry with a bitter taste in our mouths."

"Came for my birthday with the family. Upon arrival, asked to put the baby's pram in the entry way, while he was fast asleep in there. No issue, did so accordingly and managed to get baby back to sleep at the table. However another family came in 10 minutes later and no discussion with them literally waved through with pram into the restaurant...boggling. Food was lovely, true authentic italian. Unfortunately, found a hair in my wife's drink. Service was acceptable, one sever had the face of a bulldog chewing a wasp the whole time. Noticed a wasps nest outside near the guttering above the front door and windows. Haven't left the best impression given their selectiveness with babies/children at the very start of the evening. Children's menu is limited in choice, could do with a bit more variety portion sizes for kids were great. For adults, phenomenal food. Doesn't give the best family vibe simply due to the limitation on kids menu. If I was coming here with friends for an evening, would be absolutely spot on. Date night would be great. Just didn't feel great for family."

"First time eating in this restaurant, although eaten in others in the group. Internal decor very relaxing and peaceful, just kept wondering about the difficulty in cleaning the glass on the water features! A bit too warm in the restaurant, not just from the curry, but temperature wise. Starters excellent Main courses both very tasty, but too much and had to ask for a doggy bag. Overall, a great experience. Previously had a takeaway, which wasn't great, so a bit reluctant to try the restaurant, but I'm pleased I did and will definitely eat here again."

"I had lunch here today with a friend, and we were attended by a lovely waitress who took our order for the vegetable quiche with chips and coleslaw. It was really delicious, and we both enjoyed it thoroughly. I would have given this place 5 stars, but I can only give it 4 because the vegetarian options were quite limited. It's worth noting that meat eaters can enjoy non-meat meals too. Overall, it was a good experience."

"We had dinner at the Ferry Inn because it was in a walking distance from where we were staying in Cawood. It's a beautiful very traditional pub. Lovely atmosphere and nice ales. Waitresses could smile a bit more though. My husband's burger and my daughter's chicken were fab but both my starter and main were extra spicy. I like spicy food but I didn't think the prawns or the seafood risotto had the right spicy flavour. I think the chef was a bit extra generous with chilli and pepper. Portions are amazing. You get loads of food. Would recommend anyways and would visit again for sure..."

"On a recent visit found beer OK BUT food was Aweful!!!! really NOT worth a visit.. I see there are good reviews on here Obviously before the pub changed hands.. The food was well overcooked and borderline inedible.. £9.99 for overcooked fish. The so called batter was like concrete and chips were burnt almost black. However the location of the pub was nice with views across the lake.. Service was reasonable but not professional. But the food needs serious attention and possibly a professional chef to bring the food up to a reasonable edible professional standard at which the public will find it acceptable.."

"Our original venue unfortunately cancelled our lunchtime booking on Saturday with half an hours notice due to a location wide power cut. At short notice The Rockingham Arms was able to fit in our party of 12 for my brothers 50th birthday (who had travelled for 4.5 hrs to be with us) and saved the day. They also managed to give us the conservatory to ourselves right next to the garden so the kids could play out whilst in sight. They decorated the room with birthday banners and served up a delicious 3 course meal from their excellent menu. They even put some candles in his dessert and sang happy birthday. Nothing was too much trouble: we had children with us requiring a few changes to the food and they were happy to accommodate. Service was excellent from all the staff, very polite and helpful. Food was yummy, portion sizes were just right and everything cooked to perfection. A very good time was had by all. Have eaten here before and always enjoyed it but this time they went above and beyond. Thank you Team Rocky!! We will be back."

"We went for tea last Friday, with our small dog. We 've been before and the chips do not disappoint.....but everything else did on this visit, I 'm afraid. My husband had burger and chips and I had sizzling beef and black bean with chips and rice! The burgers were overcooked, really dry, Coleslaw seemed to be the cheapest, supermarket bought and salad from the 70 's. He enjoyed an extra side of onion rings. My beef was not sizzling at all. Not surprising really as it seemed like the beef you get out of a tin (lovely when camping, not when paying over a tenner for it! . I had to ask the server for a spoon so I could serve myself the beef she was asked this previously when another customer had the same dish.....you 'd think the spoon would have therefore been delivered with the meat plate ......... A server asked if the meal was OK, I said it is just OK.......she walked away.... Not sure what happened last Friday G D, I know you can do better! "I am the largest buyer of meat in the country, so I had to give these guys a visit, as I now live quite local. Well all I can say is a massive well done, to all at the restaurant, service great, staff excellent, salad bar great, but the meat..... all top quality!! no corners cut, really good to see this. Well done for delivering a fantastic experience, you should be proud of yourselves. I will be rushing back with all of my friends. again top job, top meat, top quality!!"

"This is a fabulous country pub and if I was able to give it more stars, I would. If this was closer to home, we would be here all of the time and we would probably be the size of a house. We stumbled upon the pub through a quick search for nearby food places to the Premier Inn nearby and it was such a wonderful, flavourful meal with lovely friendly staff. I opted for the burger which was really tasty, especially the beef with cheese combination and the triple cooked chips are probably worth coming in for on their own. Beautifully crispy and piping hot when they arrived. My fella opted for the rabbit ballotine as he hadn't tried rabbit before and although it looks small, it came with a cottage pie side. The gravy was especially delicious (homemade stock with port and wine from the secrets we managed to find out from the chef) and the potato topping on the pie was creamy with a glorious cheesy flavour. We opted for puddings too (apple Tarte tatin and lemon meringue pie) and we ate them before we could take a picture The pub itself is a good size with free parking at the back and an accessible entrance. We did phone ahead to book but as it's midweek it wasn't necessary. I honestly don't know why it wasn't absolutely packed, because it was stunning and I can't recommend this place enough!"

"We arrived at about 4:20pm after reading the opening times on Google, didn’t realise that for the evening they open at 5pm. We didn’t mind returning but the ladies told us to come in as it was raining, which was very kind of them. They also got us seated and let us order even though it wasn’t 5pm yet. All the staff were lovely, friendly and smiley. Anyway… the food. Oh my goodness, what a gem this restaurant is for Selby!!! We had the Thai spring rolls and a recommended soup (forgot to ask for the name), they were both so tasty and the flavours were very well balanced. For the main we had the duck red Thai curry with egg fried rice, phenomenal, have never had pineapples and grapes in a curry before but it was divine!! We were stuffed at this point but couldn’t leave without splitting a dessert, we had the fried banana and ice cream. The lady at the restaurant overheard, picked a fresh banana right from the display next to us and took it to the kitchen. Lovely people and lovely decor, we will definitely be coming back."

"It was many years since I last visited here and I enjoyed the food then. Having just moved back into the area I thought I would give it a try. I was not disappointed. The staff were lovely. Friendly and helpful with my questions. The food was just lovely. We had two large light yorkshire puddings with gravy perfect. The Cross Keys Burger, served with chips followed and was said to be delicious. Saschas chicken supreme was perfectly cooked chicken, spring onion mash, served with a gorgeous creamy mushroom sauce. Oh I am salivating at the thought of it. Belgian chocolate melt amd Sticky toffee pudding followed, both dlicious and generous portions. . All in all, what a lovely meal. I will certainly be back. Thank you."

"Just returned after visiting with my husband and young children. On arrival we were seated quickly and the place was busy. First time visitors and on seeing food coming out to other tables, we were impressed. Lovely looking home made Yorkshire puddings and we...were all hungry after a family day out shopping and at the cinema and we were all looking forward to a lovely Sunday dinner. Ordered the Mussels to start with. They were okay, have had better, but wasnt going to complain. After the starter the main courses took absolutely ages, we waited and waited, but it was clear they were busy, so we waited very patiently. They did actually come over to our table in the end to apologise for the wait and assure us our food would be the next meals out and asked if we would like more drinks (ones they tried to charge us for) not complimentary for the wait! When the food finally arrived it looked yummy! All the vegetables are served in separate pots and tiny gravy boats. Once we had dished out our veg and gravy amongst the four of us and started to eat we realised it was extremely cold and i dont mean luke warm I mean flat cold! Tried minutes to get some horseradish sauce to the table to go with the beef and my husband finally stood up and said he was going to complain. After approaching the bar to do so, he had to have an argument with the manager about the quality of our food and she reluctantly agreed to take off two off the four meals off the bill. When the waitess came to clear our plates she had a face like thunder and was clearly being as rude as she possible could. I told her the food would of been nice if it was warm and she replied well you have eaten enough of it and stomped off. I was absolutely furious and on leaving I asked for the manager. I tried to politely explain we would of enjoyed our meals if they had of been served warm, to which she replied why didnt you complain. I explained we had tried ages to get somebodys attention just for some horseradish sauce. She replied the waitress asked you if wanted condiments, but you was too busy sorting out the children. I was furious at her attitude and that of the waitress who cleared our table and when I made her aware of this unacceptable service, she asked me to leave and never come back, this was infront on my year old daughter. Absolutely disgusting response to unhappy customers. Shame on you for making all the excuses under the sun for bad customer service! The prices you charge dont warrant the food or service provided. Get your heads out your backsides and focus on improving your customer complaints instead of being arrogant!"

"We went with our family, 5 adults and 2 children. It was a Monday night and not very busy which is surprising given the high quality and low price of this amazing restaurant. Immediately BYO saves money. The starters and mains were brilliant, the selection vast, and the flavours were incredible. Our son and his family eat a top class Asian restaurants in the Midlands and thought this meal was amongst the best he ever tasted. We had loads and the price tag of just over £110 for 7 of us was extremely reasonable. Highly recommended. "4 of us went on the early Sunday evening and was immediately greeted by a beautiful employee. she asked if we wanted to have a drink first or if we wanted to sit down what we decided. to let sit. we ordered drinks immediately. for beginners we ordered hot spicy garlic puzzles that were amazing, and a tomato/fruit pizza (our favorite starter) for the net we ordered a chicken-prosciutto pasta dishes that was delicious and 3 runp steaks with real boiled chips (fab) with pfefferminz and red wine sauce. we were astonished, how tender were the steaks, which were cooked at place and place. I usually order filet when it is on the menu like a really delicate steak, I can honestly say that this steak was melted in mouth and as tender as any filet steak I have ever had. the sauces are also the best sauces we ever had so rich tasty. the ambiente and the music in this restaurant, while giving a walk gives a really nice feeling, and the personal make sure that they get the best eating experience ever. they're just a nice baptism. if you want a good night with high quality food to a brilliant price, please try la anchor!"

"We come on holiday near here and always pop into selby for breakfast. Our usual cafe is closed on a Sunday. I don’t know if it was an off day but the staff did not even crack a smile. Miserable as sin! We go stared at like we were aliens when we walked in. The food was nice but the service was, erm miserable. One of the female staff members was heard complaining it was her day off and she was in, and boy could you tell she wasn’t happy! A young lad came in at 10 to, I assume to pot wash etc and the 2 staff already in there ignored him. We won’t be returning, would rather starve!"

"My stay was a delight. On arrival our room was not quite ready so we were offered complimentary drinks whilst we waited. The room was a little smaller than I expected but did have a huge comfy bed which is all I had hoped for. The room also had a dressing table, mirror, night stand, kettle, tea and coffee supplies but no milk so bring your own if required. There were also no bin bags for rubbish so once again~bring your own! The room we stayed in room 5 also had ample plug sockets 3 double so no having to bring extention leads ect. There is also a small en-suite shower with toilet. I would definitely stay here again but on a lower level due to having a disabled friend with me and a dog our room was up one set of metal stairs which was about 15 steps . There is also a nice sized tv with access to Netflix ect if you have an account. As this is an honest review... some people may be bothered by the sound of the traffic passing by, It can be abit noisy but that never bothered me. On the whole. Clean, comfy and lovely and warm.
