"This is an update of my original review from June 2011. Had dinner at Banthai last night and the food is even better than we remembered. We eat there every time we're in Toulon and it's no wonder why as the food is amazing and...the service is friendly. The restaurant is located in the Barbès area of Toulon, which is not right downtown. The decor is typical of most Thai restaurants: photos and statues of Buddha and wooden ornaments. There is outdoor seating available, consisting of a couple tables, but the restaurant is on a busy street. We usually sit indoors. You can order typical Thai dishes such as red, green or yellow curries, pad thai, tom yum soup, etc. but why not ask the server to help you chose a new dish. This is a family-owned and operated restaurant. They take the time to explain the ingredients of each dish and you can be sure that all ingredients are fresh. They will also prepare all dishes to your liking: spicy or not. To start off, we had the salade de papaye (papaya salad) for €8 and the salade de mangue (mango salad) for €7. Both were light and tasty. Portions are large and we could have shared one salad between the two of us but we were feeling greedy for authentic Thai food last night. We ordered two main courses: poulet au basilic, which was not on the menu but they prepared it for us anyway (finely diced chicken with coriander, sweet red peppers sautéed in a wok, served on a bed of fragrant, white rice and with a fried egg on the side) and a sizzling, hot plate of poulet aux aubergines 46 on the menu: wok-fried chicken and slices of eggplant). The latter had a very savoury sauce and I had to stop myself from licking the hotplate. The vegetables in the mains were crispy and cooked just right. For dessert, we had the riz au banane (sweet, sticky rice with a coconut sauce served in a banana leaf) and nems au chocolat (chocolate-filled spring rolls) served with a scoop of ice cream. Both desserts were €5 each. Dinner for two with 2 beers and a large bottle of sparkling water came to €60 with tax and tip. There are two small parking lots near the restaurant. We reserved a table as the restaurant is small and fills up quickly."

"I knew the old establishment and when my friends gave me an appointment at this restaurant I marked a frank refusal. Indeed, apart from the gogo food and tourists (between fries and salads.) it cannot be said that the establishment attracted gourmets. It was rather the bar and dance floor that brought the world. I accepted because my friends assured me that since the change of owner, it had nothing to do with it. and this was the case, a very friendly welcome, a reworked setting, we dined outside because of summer temperatures. the hotel is well attended and despite the anniversary at a table and the eevjf at another, the musical atmosphere and the setting made my meal even more enjoyable. Some tapas, accras, zucchini buns and especially seasoned knives have put us in appetite. I chose a tuna half-cook with its crushed potatoes and its zucchini bunkers and I simply enjoyed myself. Dressage was superb, the good quantity and the flavours at the rendezvous. The bread was good too. I asked the chief to congratulate him. I think that when it's good or not, you have to say it because this is a value of encouragement or improves if the intention is present. the dessert card is to my taste not sufficiently elaborate and I did not find the sweet touch that could have completed my succulent meal. The fare was very affordable.Bref, the beach would have deserved to change its name because if people continue to associate it with the old team, it passes a nice discovery. I'll go back and recommend it."

"We were in Toulon as part of a cruise stop. We wanted to spend the day at the beach but the weather was not really beach weather. We had made reservations here before porting, and thought we should still check it out. It is about...a 25 minute walk from the cruise port (where the ferry drops you off). There is a straight shot that takes you up and over a large hill, or you can go around the hill for a little bit longer route both take about the same time. The beaches of Mourillion are very beautiful. I can imagine on a hot sunny day the water being crystal blue and thousands of people laying on the beach. That was not our day, it was nice, but only a handful of people at the beach. We arrived right about noon to M5 and were promptly greeted by Yann (I believe that is his name). He was incredibly nice and very accommodating to us American Tourists. It was clear we were out of the tourists section as we were handed menus in French. We tried our best to interpret it, but after struggling asked for English menus and they were available. Menu was had a wide variety of options. To an American, it seemed more heavier, as if they didn 't have a lunch menu, but this was their only menu. Which was fine. I ordered the Scallops and my husband ordered the burger. We were served a starter of toast points with a tuna salad spread that was fantastic (coming from someone who cannot stand canned tuna, this is a huge compliment). Our food arrived and it was stunning. The plating was really nice and the food was equally delicious. My scallops were served with almost a caramel sauce with hazelnuts on top. A unique flavor combination I had never had but thought they worked really well. It was served with a side of mashed potatoes and veggies. My husbands burger was really good. He ordered it medium, and was more on the medium rare side, but was quite good. It had a really nice sauce on it and was served with fantastic french fries (they were more like potato wedges). We sat outside and the weather was lovely. By the time we left at 1pm the place was filled with locals, tourists, and business lunches. The view of the beach and the water was quite lovely and felt very South of France . If you are in the area, it is worth the visit."
