"We ordered two (quite expensive main course together with a beer for my husband. I am not allowed to drink alocohol at present and so asked for a jug of tap water. The food was served promptly and was very tasty. We ordered just...one desert as there was limited choice and nothing I really fancied, so I shared part of my husband's desert. The suprise came with the bill where they sought to charge for the jug of tap water. We queried this with our waiter (who said he was the son of the owner). He said they were copying other restaurants. We explained that we had eaten recently in Budapest, Vienna and Jerusalem restaurants and had never been charged for tap water. He offered to strike it off the bill as he saw we were unhappy. Then the owner arrived and we repeated our concern. He tried to justify the charge by saying that some families arrive with five children; order just a pizza and a plate of chiips and then want water to drink. So he instituted a charge for water. Given we had already ordered the most expensive main courses on the menu and a glass of beer as well; and that there were only two of us, we still felt cheated by the attempt to charge for water especially as there was nothing written on the menu about this nor was it explained to us when I asked for the water.
