"On our first visit to Salzberg I fell in love. Yes, the city is lovely. Yes the views are stunning. But it was this little cafe that won my heart! Our stay in Salzberg was short, but we made repeat visits to this little cafe for breakfast. The atmosphere was a lovely combination of luxurious textures, muted colors and modern elegance. It was a true Austrian breakfast experience. We enjoyed pastry, croissant, cheese, meat, egg, orange juice, and the most exquisite coffees I've ever had! The atmosphere was one of casual elegance. Being an American, I was amazed at the delicious diminutive portions and the "not too sweet" but "just right" pastry. It was an experience in refinement. Everything in Austria is smaller and slower...like the way things were in America in the 50's before the "supersize" and "super quick" came into fashion. The coffee was smaller but more flavorful. The servings were smaller but served on little silver trays. The visual presentation filled my eyes! My water glass was only 3 or 4 inches high and had a tiny spoon resting across the top. It was so cute! Orange juice was freshly squeezed. and presented in a small goblet. I had Topfenstrudel, which was something I've never tasted before...like a lightly sweet cheese soufflé with a hint of lemon set in a thin layer of phyllo dough. Wonderful! The staff was friendly and spoke English which was a definite plus! Konditorei Rainberg I miss you!!! If I could have packed you in my suitcase, I would have!"
