"I'm not even ashamed to admit we came here two nights in a row and I had the same exact meal each time. The first time I tried it was so amazing I had to come back immediately. Besides all the historic and modern sightseeing Berlin has to offer, I was honestly most excited to try some German cuisine. Particularly currywurst! Although our Airbnb host alerted us to this spot, I really have to thank Yelp for making the decision to eat here a no brainer. We were starving when we arrived but thank goodness the restaurant was only down the street from our apartment. The servers were really friendly and spoke to us in English, and they didn't laugh too hard at our attempts to speak German! The currywurst has good flavour. The sauerkraut is seriously SERIOUSLY amazing and not just the typical kind either. I mean, I'm glad they live to their name. They have a spiced version which seems to be slathered in some hot sauce, really nice smoky flavour that pairs well with the sausage. Love that the chips are served as both wedges and sweet potato thin cut variety! And the simple side salad rounds out the meal. Perfect balance of protein, carbs, veggie. My parents ordered the burgers and loved them. According to them, the lamb burger was tasty and cooked excellent as was the regular beef burger. The toppings were interesting creating a good profile. More than just your average burger. I also tried their Apple Strudel, so cute in a little jar dusted with sugar and served with a sweet slightly tart blackcurrant sauce. Wonderful dessert, glad I made room for it on our second night! Besides the food, what I love most about Sauerkraut is their menu and their story. The owners are one married couple, the husband from the U.S. while the wife is German. And they found a way to marry their two separate cultures and cuisine to create a cozy, heartwarming restaurant with a cool menu of homey meals updated with a twist. I enjoyed reading a bit about their background in the menu itself which is in both English and German. A must stop for tourists locals alike. Next time I'm in Berlin I'll be sure to come back for another visit, or two!"
