"The Ristorante Pizzeria am Frankenturm, a story in itself. For many Trier residents it is the best Italian in the city, for us it was always a place for a cozy get together with the family, especially on celebrations and birthdays. Since I've become more culinary savvy and think outside the box, I've tried the menu here too. Interim conclusion: Everything tastes good, but ultimately the presentation gives more to the overall impression of the dish than its actual taste. During my last visit, everything that I had been trying to forgive for years was increasingly confirmed. This time it should be taglioloni al tartufo. Just the name truffle brings to mind this iconic scent. This delicacy was served to me for a modest price of €29, at a moderate distance from the other dishes. The additionally ordered Insalata Siciliana, half lettuce/vegetables, half grated cheese (especially grated mozzarella), was initially without dressing, which was quickly delivered in the end in the form of a thick sauce. The taste was okay, fresh, but also rather unspectacular. When the pasta arrived, this plate shone with a very fine presentation that would have been worthy of fine dining individual elements fit visually, but not so much in terms of taste, but that was only peripherally annoying. What was seriously missing, however, was the tender, earthy salty scent that arises from the fusion of truffle and parmesan, but hope remained until the first fork sank into the mouth nothing. A lot would have been expected given the amount of grated truffles, but this impression was confirmed when they were passed around the table. For me, it ultimately just means that the truffles used couldn't have been fresh. What was left at the end was the appropriate taste of an “Alfredo”, the consistency was also okay, but you could only enjoy the last bites from an oil soup. What was achieved with the clouded impression of individual mistakes resulted in disappointment. The other dishes didn't seem to impress anyone too much. In the follow up discussions it was noted that this had happened several times. The subsequent offering of the dessert menu three times by the staff has already become a habit. I will give the Ristorante Pizzeria am Frankenturm one last chance to find out what a pizza should be and then adapt or supplement this review accordingly. My conclusion: Yes, it is perhaps the best Italian restaurant in Trier, but the reasons are sadly frightening: Unfortunately, there are no good Italian restaurants in Trier."
