Auberge des Gabariers

We had dinner on warm September evening here; waterfront dining along the Dordogne River looking out at our fabulous B

A fabulous location but it does reinforce the perception of the French by the English. The staff are aloof but the food is excellent

I've eaten here a couple of times. They do nice pizzas, the staff are friendly and the location under the stone bridge looking across the river is very scenic. Speisekarte ansehen

Superb. while in for a coffee the owner helped us find a hotel and book, his daughter drew us a map on how to get there - his only request was that we ate in his restaurant in the evening we duely obliged - food was good, atmostphere was great

Stunning views, good food, reasonable prices, and yet, not one member of staff could smile or make the effort to be welcoming. We also went to its sister restaurant a few doors away 'Pizz. Crep. Glac'. Same applied there - it's as if the staff have been trained to be frosty! Such a shame, when the setting is so idyllic. There are nicer restaurants with great food and friendlier service to be found away from the river.

Chose a lovely table over looking the river, you can only have ice cream here! to eat lunch we were moved under a canopy, minimal view, stuffy and smoked over throughout lunch.Lunch, plat de jour, an average meal of chicken and roast potatoes, no salad or vegetables, cheese to finish, coffee very nice.Staff unfortunately struggled to put smiles on their faces and came across quite un interested. The food here is among the best we have eaten in France. I have no hesitation in recommending the restaurant, the kitchen staff and waitress were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the same can't be said of the accommodation. The 90euro room is above the restaurant and therefore noisy until closing, also motor noise from refrigeration all night It is large and well furnished and clean but the breakfast a bit mean. One coffee and bread and one madeliene cake for 90euro? We patronised the restaurant and bar for 2 days and also had to pay for extra coffee we asked for at breakfast! That was lousy.

Very surprised to find this as the lowest rated place in Argentat ; our experiences have only ever been positive . Lovely setting by the quayside overlooking the river of course . We have always found the staff very pleasant and the food simple but delicious. The last twice I have been I had a river fish ( think it was perch ) and requested a risotto to accompany it that was actually meant for a set menu dish , " no problem" was the response and it was superb and the white wine sauce mouth watering . Good little wine list helped the meal along nicely . As I say very surprised to see the unflattering comments ...... all I would say is the place is packed every lunchtime so I'm sure they are q...

We have been to the Gabariers many times. In fact every time we have visitors we take them there because of the wonderful site; there is very little that can beat sitting on the quays in Argentat on a lovely sunny day and, if you want to eat, then there is very little choice.The food is OK, that's about all one can say; we have never had a truly bad meal but neither is there any attempt to refinement. Pretty much every dish comes with the same boring salad and some dishes have been quite heavy. Desserts are massive but the sort you get in a cafeteria. The worse thing about the place is the owners.
