"3 weeks on holiday in the caravan in the Dordogne and a little overnight stop in Le Mans, Yvre L'Eveque campsite, on the way back to Calais. We decided we would see if we could find a nice restaurant after the long drive. Le Boeuf Tient Le Pave certainly did not disappoint. The warmth of the welcome and the smiles of the excellent service team throughout the evening was exceptional (I wish we could say it was characteristic of all the restaurants we had been to this holiday - Sarlat restaurants take note).The menu itself did not offer a great deal of choice but the food was absolutely superb and at 21E was really excellent value. It has a great wine list which is also very reasonable. They make a great pre-dinner G+T by the way. Thoroughly recommended."

"Not posh, just a nice little restaurant that cooks beautifully very good food. In a town where the choice of eating place is poor, and utterly touristy on the hill, this is a place where you will eat well. The menu is short and really caters for those who eat meat and those who prefer fish, although the do handle herbivores as well if needed. The menu does not change and so does not vary with the market of the day. Everything though is fresh and reasonably locally sourced. I recommend the foie gras, but then I would. The amuse-bouche was excellent.All in all, this has the semblance of a posh restaurant but remains simple without the unnecessary trappings. The waitresses were lovely, the patronne rather distant and harassed.On the downside, if you have pretensions, then live up to them. Napkins should be either cotton or linen, synthetics feel unpleasant and are useless for wiping. Wine was distinctly overpriced and if you claim environmental friendliness, should be organic. Few realize just how much pesticide floats about in non-organic wines. I found over 20 euros far too pricey for a HALF bottle of Sancerre red, especially when it does from a wine merchant and not an estate. Good organic sancerre red is at less than 10 euros a bottle.To sum up, not overpriced, except the wine, but a very decent restaurant where the food is good. Nothing memorable."

"My boyfriend and I had come back to Le Mans with friends for a stop off as we wanted to visit 7 Plats. We were disappointed to find 7 Plats was closed for a few days but picked this place which was just behind (opposite the Hotel de Ville) and bustling. Service was very slow (but friendly!) and we waited a while to order drinks and even longer before they arrived but it was busy and we had wanted to drag the meal out a bit anyway after a day of travelling. Between us we had langoustine ravioli and baked Camembert to start - both absolutely delicious. For mains we had the steak pave and fish of a day (couldn't work out the English translation for this but the waitress explained that it was slightly meatier than cod). All the mains were divine, if a bit rich. We had got through a lot of bread which had filled us up a lot and sadly we didn't have any room for desert but we were seriously tempted. Overall, a great meal and we will definitely be back next time were going through Le Mans."

"Monday rainy at the mans, 13:45, all the restaurants are closed, and we are hungry. a good surprise (the boss?) affable ready to make good words, warm welcome us . black skewer, and skewer of pig cheeks: very good, the presentation is attractive, the fast and fun service (I have already said), the addition is quite suitable with three glasses of wine. I cracked for a great dessert served in a large verrine: a delight; at the time of the addition a peach mojito with pop horn made house again a delight, help .... my balance !"
