"I had been here for lunch last year, and despite us being the only diners that day (on a cool spring weekday I remember having been pleasantly surprised by the variety of fresh seafood on offer. The chef/owner is from Sardinia, and is clearly trying to do something slightly different in rural Umbria not known for its seafood. The restaurant is petite but perfectly formed inside nice stone walls, elegant decor. However on this visit, on a Friday evening in mid August heat, we were outside on the little terrace/gazebo in front of the restaurant. By day this is a bit underwhelming it is a pretty non descript wooden construction with trellises framing it, and it sits in a small public space with a fountain and a couple of footpaths, looking onto the least interesting view of Nepi's ancient stone walls. By night however, a few lanterns add a lot of charm, and it is a lovely spot in which to dine. We shared the tuna tartare to start a very faithful replication of a steak tartare, sushi grade raw tuna, nicely prepared and spiced, and sufficient to share. To follow, I had the tagliatelle alla scoglieri (shellfish pasta , which was excellent plenty of plump fresh mussels, clams prawns squid, and very well seasoned too. The pecorino wine we had with it was lovely too. Everyone else seemed local (3 other tables of 2 or 4 were dining at the same time as us, and a larger group of 20 somethings arrived quite late on, as we were finishing up all on 1st name terms with the lady who was heading up front of house (I think she was the wife of the chef? , and repeat local trade is a good sign. The food is fairly pricey, but you are paying for what you get, as the ingredients and the cooking are both excellent. My only grumble is that, when paying, I mentioned to the owners that I had originally booked via their website, but as I didn't receive the promised email confirmation, I got my wife (who speaks much better Italian than me to call them. She booked under her name (without mentioning my previous online booking attempt . On mentioning this, both of the owners were very keen to prove to me that they HAD received my original booking, and that they had sent a confirmation. All true, as I could see from the cc'd emails on their phone/tablet respectively. However, their confirmation never got to my own inbox (and I checked my spam box too ... and other emails to my address were coming through just fine. I tried several times to explain to them (in my limited Italian that their system wasn't working correctly, but they got quite irritated by this, and blamed me for the failure. I am an IT consultant, with 30+ years of experience throughout Europe with computers, communications and data comm's hardware and software, and while I patiently explained again that I was only mentioning this for their own info/benefit, and that them having been cc'd on the automated booking response from their website to me did not guarantee that the associated email server had actually processed and delivered the reply TO me, they were borderline agressive in their insistence that it was all my fault. Their business, and their prerogative, but next time I will eat elsewhere, as I didn't appreciate their attitude when I was just trying to help them (their email NEVER arrived, by the way! Apart from that though, a great little seafood specialist, in a lovely town, a solid 4 star place and well worth a visit. I suggest you book by phone though!"
