"Lunch was pre-booked for a family gathering. COVID compliant, quickly approached and seated by the main window with a fine view. I ordered fish and chips. I've never seen chips served in a hotel which look as if they came from a bad chip shop! The fish batter was rank and tasteless. Others at our table felt the same. The Monkfish scampi was 5 pieces, for nearly £20! Staff seemed as if they wanted us out of there ASAP, which made sense when we saw a large wedding party arrive. The vanilla ice-cream was good though, even though expensive for what you got. Unfortunately we felt as if things were going downhill. We won't visit for a while now."

Tried the Cullen Bay Hotel on a recent break to Cullen. We had been to a few local eateries but this was the best. Wonderful views out across the sea.

Our lunch was fantastic. We ordered 4 different dishes and we were very happy. Friendly staff and excellent service. Also a great view. Highly recommend!

This is the worst Cullen Skink I have ever had. I was served a small bowl of white liquid with chunks of potato in it. I tried to find pieces of smoked fish, but only found a few unidentified fish fragments.

I brought my mom to this restaurant for lunch this week. The food was excellent, with vegetarian options available as well. We loved the views and the staff were outstanding. It was nice to support a local business. We will definitely be back. Speisekarte ansehen

Visited to taste some Cullen Skink. The dining room was soul-less, cold and bare. The views are the redeeming feature. The skink was watery contained little or no cream. It was served with one single, cheap, shop bought oatcake. Shameful as an example of famous Scottish cuisine.

I had the Aberdeen Angus burger with haggis and peppercorn sauce. The bun was dry and the peppercorn sauce, which cost £3, watered down. My wife had quesadilla with five bean chilli, there were only a couple of beans and no chilli taste. Drinks were way overpriced and we wish we had gone elsewhere.

Sat outside for a drink after a lovely walk from Cullen to Portknockie. All Covid compliant and prompt service. Asked if we could have a bowl of ice cream each as well as the drink but refused, stating they were fully booked. Not sure why they couldn’t slap a bit of ice cream in a bowl??!!! Great view Speisekarte ansehen

Booked in here for an early evening meal with our toddler while staying in the area. Staff were all very friendly and hospitable. Food was delicious, especially the Cullen Skink, Fish Pie Highland Chicken. Clean restaurant with marvellous views. We had 2 starters, 3 mains, dessert drinks for £80. Would definitely visit again and hope to book in here for a stay sometime in the future. Thanks!

I ordered a five-bean chili quesadilla, but unfortunately it only had a few beans in it. The dish was mostly made up of tomatoes, peppers, and a little bit of onion, with no chili flavor at all. The plate was filled with salad that had no dressing, and none was offered. I felt like I wasted £50. I suggest going to the Royal Oak instead. The young waitstaff were fine, but I was disappointed in the chef's skills. I had to eat something else when I got home. I won't be returning and I don't recommend this restaurant.

"Genuinely couldn't fault the experience. When I heard that the Drouthy had a new menu focusing more on a veggie and vegan base, I knew I had to give it a whirl. The starter of hot Smoked salmon with lemon creme fraiche and oatcakes was simple yet packed full of flavour. I could have easily have had 10 plates of that and been happy to give it 5 stars. My partner had the smoked duck and even though I have given up meat, I was salivating at the look of their dish. They assure me that it was as delicious as it looked. Served with lavender roasted potatoes (which I'm told were amazing and charred salsify. The mains were more than a match for the brilliant starters. If I could give one piece of advice, it would be get the beetroot risotto. Not being a massive fan of beetroot, I wasn't too sure about it. But the incredibly warm waiter (for my son's, I never got his name. I only hope he can forgive me if he reads this! assured me it was tasty. He was not wrong. Beautifully cooked vegan risotto with balsamic beetroot chunks, shiitake mushrooms and rocket, it was simply divine. WHEN I go back, I'll be hard pressed to go for anything else because it was so delicious. It was creamy, packed full of flavour and cooked absolutely perfectly. Just the right amount of bite, nowhere near being mush like you get in a lot of other places (who charge a lot more, by the way . Superb. The highest of compliments to the chef. I was so taken by my dish I forgot to ask how my partner's was until I had eaten all of mine. But their home made vegan tagliatelle had disappeared from the plate so it must have been amazing. I couldn't handle dessert so had a delicious ruby port (delaforce I think it was called , and I would also like to give credit to whoever came up with their wine list. It covered every single base and no-one could ever be disappointed. Finally, if you're ever in Elgin, please make sure this is one of your destinations. You will leave extremely happy."
