"We stopped at this cafe as a midway point on the Cleveland Way Coastal Walk. There's a sign for the cafe on top of the cliff, but to get there, you have to trek up a steep hill through a campsite, which was quite a workout—even for someone like me who considers themselves relatively fit! However, once we arrived, we found the cafe to be clean, the staff friendly, and the menu quite appealing. We ordered a ham and cheese sandwich, which I forgot to photograph, but I have to say it was likely one of the best sandwiches we've ever had."

"My friend and I were walking the Coast to Coast trail from St Bees to Robin Hood's Bay for charity. Covering a distance of 192 miles, it was no easy feat. On our last day, June 4th, with approximately 3 miles to go and no options for breakfast along the way, we decided to stop at the Coast Cafe for a bite to eat as we were both famished. Arriving at 2:50pm, my friend requested a cheese and bacon burger only to be told that the kitchen was closing at 3:30pm and they were no longer serving food. We asked if we could at least get some coffee, to which they obliged. I noticed two sausage rolls on display and asked for them to be heated up. The server, who seemed disinterested and unwilling to assist, handed them to me cold. When I inquired if they could be heated, she reluctantly put them in the microwave for 30 seconds, barely warming them up. At this point, we decided to give up as we were exhausted from the 13 days of walking. The server could definitely benefit from some lessons in customer service. Sorry for the rant, but our experience at the Coast Cafe was far from satisfactory."

"We had a perfect stay! The bed was large and incredibly comfortable, and the room was spotless. The breakfast was delicious; we were so full that we didn’t even need lunch. The owners were very friendly, and the price was reasonable. The location at the top of Robin Hood's Bay is fantastic, with plenty of activities nearby. We enjoyed visiting Brown's Sweet Shop for a chocolate shot at their chocolate fountain! Runswick Bay, which is close by, was great for fossil hunting, and we loved walking along the beach and the coast. Overall, I would give the rooms a solid 5 out of 5!"

"I just got home from a wonderful evening at Smugglers. My partner and I shared a delightful bottle of wine and definitely over-ordered! I enjoyed the spicy vegetable pizza while Hannah had the Margherita, and both were delicious. We also got a salad, fries, and some coleslaw, managing to eat most of it but leaving a bit behind. Thankfully, the leftover pizza was wrapped for us, and I will look forward to enjoying it for breakfast. The atmosphere is absolutely fantastic; it’s dark and cozy, making it the perfect spot to escape the brisk North Sea wind. This place is a hidden gem, and I can’t wait to bring friends and family here, feeling quite pleased when they love it as much as we did! We’re leaving tomorrow and returning to everyday life, but we are so thrilled to have had dinner at this exceptional restaurant. Bravo, Smugglers! We’ll definitely be back!"

"Have visited on a number of occasions. However, on our last visit popped in to order a couple of take away sandwiches and coffee and was told we aren’t doing any take away food. I asked why not, as they always had done before but the girl serving behind the counter didn’t know. A male person with hair a bit long for his years appeared and said in a gruff voice “we’re too busy and behind with our orders as it is.” No apology or suggestions for alternatives. His attitude was basically go away. Customers sitting at tables raised their eyebrows at his manner. Not good business to be rude to customers that will be around all year and not just holiday time. Shall give them a miss in the future."
