"We hadn’t been here for quite a while so thought we’d pop in. We arrived at 11.30 and were told meals weren’t served until 12.00 by a very friendly waitress. My husband ordered the Greek style lamb which came with roast potatoes and a selection of vegetables. The lamb melted into his mouth and the sauce was rich and tasty. I had the balsamic and sun dried tomato monkfish which came with rice and was absolutely delicious. You could taste the honey in the sauce and the balsamic vinegar gave it a slight kick. We couldn’t resist dessert and my husband had the sticky toffee pudding with ice cream and judging by the clean bowl and speed it was eaten, he thoroughly enjoyed it. I went for the fruit pavlova with double cream. The fruit was caramelised and the meringue was perfect. Including 2 cokes the bill came to around £53. For the quality of the food it was great value and we will definitely be going back soon."

"Gemma chef We went to the Newcastle house hotel in Rothbury after a lovely riverside walk and a wander through the town to see if we could get 4 nice coffees and 4 bacon sandwiches for brunch. We asked if it was possible as it was 11.10 am and breakfast finished at 11 yes no problem we were told. So the group including over 80s ordered coffees and sat down. Just before the coffees came the waitress came outside to tell us the chef was going on a break if we were ok to wait. It was a lovely hot day so we sat in the shade and waited. 25 minutes later another waitress came out to tell us sorry we can’t do bacon sandwiches after all we have these sandwiches though…. All lunches unfortunately which was a little early. I Explained we have sat here and waited for 35 minutes when we could have gone to any of the little cafes in rothbury for the exact same thing had we been told it wasn’t possible. Apparently Gemma the chef decided after her break to change her mind, absolutely not acceptable at all. Wouldn’t recommend at all when you can see we have oldies in the group and we checked first and we had the good manners to wait for your break to finish! Rude is not the word. The waitresses were both lovely but that was no help. The whole debacle was just time wasting and also in the whole time we waited there was only a total of 11 people sitting, I would have thought an order when no one is ordering anything other than drinks (tea and coffee) would have been great. The inside is shabby and in need of updating though looked clean, we didn’t use any facilities so can’t comment. The coffee was also not hot even though it’s from a machine so someone needs to get a grip of this place as we later wondered if that was why it was nearly empty. Won’t be back won’t recommend and definitely hope people take notice that at this hotel you definitely as a customer don’t come first!"

"I decided to stop in for lunch at this restaurant after not visiting for years. I opted for my favorite dish, mince and dumplings, which was perfect for the cold winter day. The portion size was generous, leaving little room for vegetables in the bowl with the mince and dumplings. The food was served hot on a heated plate and everything was exceptional. Despite feeling full, I decided to order sticky toffee pudding for dessert. It was delicious, but I regretted ordering it as I was too full to finish it."

"I came here on a busy bank holiday with mam, at a time when there were loads of guys on motorbikes passing through and stopping for a bite to eat. There was a menu of sorts behind the counter (none on the tables which would have helped) the drinks were priced but the food wasn't. After a short time I realised that you had to order at the counter rather than waitress service again no notification about this. We ended up having a cup of tea and sausage sandwich each. However, this was after I made an initial order of a full English and a Bacon sandwich for mam, only to be told that they had run out of bacon. But I noticed after this that other customers were ordering a bacon sandwich without any issues, plus someone else sitting behind us got a full English which I could have had. The sausages were fine the communication with customers wasn't. We don't come to Rothbury very often but the next time we may go somewhere else."
