"The Royal China is a relatively new Chinese restaurant, at the border of the Marais, just a 5 min walk from Beaubourg. Don’t let the small front of the restaurant fool you, a spacious room awaits in the back, the decoration of which is tastefully done. No over the top heavy Chinese decorations, but wood and nice lighting.I have been there 3 times since it opened and have tried a wide variety of things on the menu. Everything I tried was good, but what stood out is the variety of Dim-Sun they offer. Indeed, in most Chinese takeaways in Paris, these are bought frozen and pre-made and microwaved upon order. None of that at the Royal China, where everything is home-made upon order, and boy, does it show. The shrimp Dim-suns, for example, are generously filled with fresh shrimp.Having tried Dim-Sun in a variety of places in Asia, I can honestly say the Royal China has nothing to envy most places (only Din-Tai-Fung in Singapore was notably better).Prices are higher than Chinese takeaways but the quality is light-years ahead; and it’s still affordable, for about 20euros / person you’ll be stuffed.Tips: not everything is one the menu, so ask the waitresses, overcoming the hesitant communication is worth it. Don’t miss the amazing Xialongbaos in particular; also, they have a home-made chili paste (not too hot) that tastes amazing."
