Les cigales - Speisekarte

The staff are rushed but then again they are dealing with about 15 tables of hungry customers. They do their best and the food is good and not too expensive. The square is pretty and in a nice part of perigueux.

I had the salmon dish which was amazing! The pasta and salad were also good. The waiter was lovely and service was fast. I couldn't believe how low it was on trip advisor it definitely deserves more praise! Good family restaurant.

We ducked out of cold spring weather to find ourselves the first to arrive and warmly welcomed. The plat du jour was fine, but the French Fries were a nuisance, while a dish from the menu proved more interesting and authentic. Plenty of locals joined us as the afternoon arrived.

Went there for lunch with my husband and son of 5, the food was good, service was rushed but what was not so good was the price for a sirop a l'eau equivalent to a squash with tap water cost Euro 2.80, the most expensive squash in all the restaurants I have ate in that region. I should let my son have a beer next time! The desserts at Euro 6 were a little expensive for that kind of place and that kind of quality. All in all the meal was average.

Came across the resto by chance while looking for a place to eat. Chose two lunch menus. I had foie-gras, salmon and fondant, husband had a tart, pasta with salmon and apple pie. The bloc de foie-gras was served on a black stone plate with pepper and salt dashes, looked just great and tasted just as great. The salmon served with rice and sauce could have lacked flavor, but generally was OK, especially when dipped in the sauce. Fondant au chocolat with sauce was fine. We were looking for a Restaurant we had been to before, but found Les Cigales by chance. It was a Monday Lunch and it was very busy they had a party of 30 arrive just after we sat down. We were not in a rush and it was very pleasant sat under the trees. I'd call this the epitome of café dining in a bustling French town square, it's off rue des Chaines and not far from rue de la République. Les Cigales are competing against two or three other open-air café brasseries and my wife and I thought their menu just had the edge over the main rival. As other contributors have remarked the service is swift; we found our young waiter and waitress efficient and friendly - we did not feel rushed - and, if you get a sunny evening without too much breeze this little Saint Silain square is a lovely place. I've read the negative reviews to date, but in our case our lunch today was superlative. About the only things in the negative reviews that strike any kind of chord are the comments on the sense of humour - or lack thereof - of Madame la serveuse, and on the decor, which is a bit of cottagey-cliché.The two waiters who saw to us were polite, unobtrusive and there exactly when needed.
