Stayed a single night, the room was good, apart from the extremely outdated TV. We used the pool ONCE and i’m now very ill. We extended our checkout at reception by an hour, and we had a different receptionist knocking at our door at 11:30 as they didn’t communicate with each other! The restaurant appears appealing on the website, but it could benefit from a thorough renovation and more attentive staff. Additionally, it's important to review the parking policy, as it's unexpected to pay extra for parking when you're already spending £150 a night for a room. Overall, I would rate the rooms a 3, the service a 1, and the location a 4.

Definitely one to avoid. Pretty pictures on the website, but the reality brings you down to earth with a bump. Tired worn out rooms, broken air con, followed by broken promises. Tables left uncleared which gave it a messy feel. On the positive side, the location is excellent, the grounds are beautiful, and only more night before we can leave. Rooms: 2 Service: 2 Location: 5

This restaurant boasts a fantastic location with easy access and ample parking. The Wi-Fi was excellent as well. My room was outstanding, featuring a lovely coffee machine. I stayed in the Coach House, where the rooms have a charming, vintage feel that adds to their appeal. The food was delicious—starting with a cheese soufflé, followed by a rolled chicken breast for the main course, and concluding with a delightful coffee crème brûlée for dessert. The room itself has been comfortable, and the room service has been great. If I'm in the area again, I would definitely stay here. The pool and facilities are nice and well-maintained, including a pleasant sauna. However, I found the food and drinks to be quite pricy for the quality provided. I’m open to spending that much if I feel it’s worth it, but I've had better reheated meals at local pubs. Note: I understand that improvements are underway in this area. I didn’t dine in the hotel for my second night due to other plans, but I look forward to trying the restaurant on my next visit, as the new manager has instilled complete confidence that positive changes are being made.

Great hotel. I don't usually leave reviews but some of the previous mixed ones here had made me a bit tentative with booking the Macdonald Alveston. Glad to be proved wrong service 10/10 when I stayed here. Sure, it is a little dated in places but it is an old building after all. My standard bedroom was clean, spacious, had tea and coffee facilities and desk for working. The water fountains (that dispense both still/sparkling water) are an excellent idea I wish more hotels did this! I used the spa and gym facilities a few times they open around 6:30am 10pm and was lucky to have all the pool/sauna to myself in the evening. I'd like to preface my review by acknowledging that my experience might not be representative of what most guests encounter, as I suspect the hotel might have been having an off day. However, overall, I found this stay to be less than the value it should have been for the cost. Check-in was relatively swift, with a second staff member stepping in to assist their colleague who was already engaged with another guest.
