"Always enjoyed Mike's, not been since they got took over Went today , ordered a Chinese, sLt and pepper ribs , don't know any animal with ribs this small , more like knuckles there was no bone in them just like the grissel ends and it's all disguised by a coating , salt and pepper chicken was overcooked and the spicy noodles had no spice and raw onion , the special chowmein had no chicken or beef in it , it was just charsui with the odd prawn , with a little slab of ham charsui and chicken on top , 2 meals and a side and I had the pleasure of paying £22 for it aswell , definitely won't be going back , The fortuna is alot better for Chinese ."

Portions have shrunk a lot and prices are high! Only got 5 skinny ribs, you used to get at least 8!

The best chippy in Skem. Everything Hot, Fresh Tasty . Spotless , definitely recommend, always busy.

Nice and clean. Friendly staff. Fish quite good. The barbecue sauce is too salty. Chips not so good a bit dry.

This is hands down the best Chinese meal I have ever had! The serving sizes were generous and the food was delivered promptly. Fantastic experience. Would definitely recommend! Speisekarte ansehen

In my opinion, this is the best Fish and chips I've ever had! You can also add curry or gravy, and even peas! Top-notch quality! The staff is also fantastic. Can't wait for Phat Fryday!

I've tried them all and its good food, good price and usually a a bit of banter with the staff. Always open to which is handy. Certainly one of the best chippy's in the area. Best in Skem.

My friend said it was good, chow mein well he must had different one to me same night, I was disappointed in it, I my favourite from chippies this one It was dry, tasteless meats, had no vegetables in it, two king prawns, no prawns or mushrooms. I had some good meals from Mikes. Speisekarte ansehen

The last three times I have visited this restaurant, the chips have not been fresh. Whether it was with the sausage dinners, chips curry, or fish and chips, they were all unappetizing to the point where my family of four had to throw them away. I wouldn't mind if this happened occasionally, but considering we spend around £20 to £25 each time, I expect the food to be edible. It's disappointing because when the chips are fresh, they are quite enjoyable, but unfortunately, that seems to be a rare occurrence now.

I was very polite and asked them for well done chips. Their response was and I quote ‘we will do it this time, but if you ask again, we will say no.’ Ive never had this issue at other chip shops before and they made out they were doing me favor. The bill was £6.10 which In comparison to Sandy Lane Chippy up the road where it usually costs me £5. In addition the staff are a lot friendly and offer a better customer experience. Unfortunately Sandy lane was closed as I visited at 1530 hours. I will not be venturing back to Mikes in hurry and I urge others to do the same as it was an unpleasant experience.

"ok… I have deliberated whether to write this as don’t like to be negative but I think this place can take it so here goes… My husband booked a meal as a Christmas pressie this as I have always wanted to go to a michelin star restaurant and this is quite local to us. We arrived at The Barn which is quite basic in appearance as the downstairs looks like several saunas due to the amount of wood on show. Upstairs was nice and attractive. The staff are efficient but the whole set up is bit ‘cold’ and unfriendly. The staff were not particularly engaged; maybe this is how they were trained to be? The food consisted of amuse bouche which tbh didn’t really taste of much and this was a theme for the whole menu unfortunately. The homemade bread was delicious but the other offerings were tasteless and needed seasoning. -trout mousse in a lemon broth, including pips, was tasteless and the mussel mousse on pikelet didn’t taste of mussels. anyhow on to the main event-we ordered partridge -chewy and tasteless, the cured sea bream not seasoned sufficiently. The meals looked delicious-style over taste? Then the mains-my deer was tender and delicious but the sauces didn’t taste of much-I had to check the menu to see what they were meant to be. My husband ordered the steak-now at £62 this should have been SOME steak- what a shame it wasn’t -it was just a sirloin, bit chewy, not that great. Deffo not worth £62 of taste! It wasn’t caramelised on the outside and abit sinewy. The bone marrow bearnaise sauce was tasty though. Now I like cooking, I like food , I cook fresh meals every night but I’m not a chef. My first experience of food at this level… I will stick to local restaurants WITHOUT michelin stars at a fraction of the price -tbh I prefer my own home cooked meals! Is this a case of the emperors new clothes? Do people just think it’s good because they are told by someone else it’s fantastic? I’m disappointed in the experience at The Barn. Bit of a wash out and I will be asking for a meal at Bistro Verite in Birkdale next Christmas probs at a fraction of the price!"
