We loved this place. Up in the hills we had the most amazing view from our little table. It’s a simple concept where you eat the four courses that are prepared fresh that day (no menu). When I explained I couldn’t have gluten they were kind enough to make me gluten free versions of each dish! And the waiter was so kind. So pleased we came here! Great food, great service, excellent value and magical views!

We were taken here by friends who live locally have eaten there on numerous occasions. Great concept of no menus, just eat what is cooked eat what you want, meal accompanied by carafe's of local wine all for a set price. Food service were fantastic. 90 euros for all food wine that was for 4 persons all in. Fantastic restaurant, with spectacular views. We will be back, but during daylight hours so we can appreciate the daytime views from this mountain restaurant.

Reasonable, price fix dinner, delightful patio seating. Courses were just right and white wine was exceptional. Red was fine The sauerkraut and eggplant starter was excellent. Then toast with toppings sausage delicious then salami and fried buns so good! , main was thinnest slices of moist pork and sautéed vegetables, ended with a wonderful chocolate custard pie. The view from the patio was wonderful, watched the sun go down. Ample Parking on street below restaurant. Owner and waitress took great care of our large group. We both enjoyed the meal, and the host, our waiter. He brought us expertly prepared local dishes of the region. The Lucca wine was perfect. You order by the half litre for two, full litre for four. This meal is $20E per person and $5E more for wine per person. The road from Lucca is windy and narrow' , don't doubt yourself it is seemingly out of the way and makes you feel lost' , keep going, well worth it. Great ambiance and served family style. Arriving at Osteria da Giomo, high up the hills in Valgiano, was a pleasure all by itself. The location has a spectacular view of Lucca, especially if you are seated outside. Parking is limited and was tight when we were there. The food choices are made by the chef many antipasti as well as a pasta and meat course served family style for the table. It was nice to have the wide array of foods, and enjoyed not having to choose off the menu but let the chef send out his best. The service was so friendly, you felt like family. We had been hosted by some local friends to a meal at Da Giomo several months before, and were impressed enough that we wanted to take other friends on our return to the Lucca. As other reviewers have mentioned, the fixed price, family style set menu for all is a bit different than other restaurants, which makes it a bit of a unique experience. So our first trip was great, this most recent, not so much. Biggest issue, no toilet paper (or paper towel, but the latter can be lived with) in the bathroom, a problem not corrected by the time of our departure even when pointed out to the restaurant staff halfway through the evening.
