Perhaps some front-of-house staff had gone missing, leaving the rest under pressure. The wine-list seems to have been pruned recently (although I may be wrong about this) and is both lacking in variety and frankly expensive. Food remains very good, and the ambience is still discreet and pleasant."

The Royal Exchange is a beautiful building in which the Sauterelle is located on the first floor overlooking the ground floor bar area but with glass screens at one end so that there is no intrusive noise. The food and service were very good we will revisit...

I think the chef is in love, because eating was pretty salty. good for him, but bad for people who come to eat. we asked for a "fortunate birthday surprise for two people who celebrated their birthday. we had to remind them to check the reservation and then only put out a surprise. that was terrible. Usually you get a small cupcake and a candle, but here we got a little strawberry and 'happy birthday' written in chocolate. we didn't expect anything big, but that was pathetic. the venue is pretty, but I have to give them that.
