"We had walked from Helmsley on a hot sunny day, so were well ready for a drink and something to eat. By mid afternoon, the cake selection was a bit restricted gluten free carrot cake, lemon drizzle and bakewell tart along with pre wrapped...cookies and flapjacks. There was a reasonable selection of fizzy drinks, all in glass bnottles. Everything was served on paper plates or cups. The tea come with a wooden stirrer presumably part of their covid precautions. I was surprised there was no obvious recycling for empty bottles or plastic. I would rate the experience as OK."

The coffee cake was excellent, and the service was friendly and efficient. The restaurant has large windows with a view of the street outside.

Tea in paper cups with wooden stick stirrers. Sandwiches in cardboard packs, over chilled and with no plates offered. Very expensive, two teas and two sandwiches for £14.

Popped into the cafe as part of visit. Don’t remember it being here last visit but a very welcome addition and tastefully fits the location. Very friendly staff and chance to rest a while before continuing the journey. Speisekarte ansehen

Staff attentive to clearing of tables and santising. Use of paper cups /plates and wooden cutlery acceptable though not sure having them stood in beakers for picking up detracts from multiple touching by other hands. Good that can sit outside too.

The restaurant is located in a charming spot in the Abbey grounds, and overall the dining experience was enjoyable. However, I believe they could improve by paying more attention to details. The tables were small, the chairs uncomfortable, the service lacking, and the prices seemed inflated.

We stopped at the Abbey which was half way round a walk we were doing. As we hadn’t planned in advance we couldn’t go into the Abbey as we hadn’t booked, however if we had joined the English Heritage we could have gone in! We...had a cream tea which was very nice with good views of the Abbey. Speisekarte ansehen

What a beautiful, peaceful and very photogenic place this is...I really was blown away by the atmosphere which was enhanced as it was misty on the morning we arrived. English Heritage have done a magnificent job in preserving this beautiful place and although some people...will probably moan about the prices in the café, the food was really fresh and if the profits go back into keeping this piece of history alive then that's fine!! Will definitely be back

The atmosphere at this restaurant is beautiful, located in a newly renovated tea room with a stunning view of the abbey. I only had tea and a cheese platter, but it was one of the best I've ever tasted. The cheese was crispy on the outside, with a creamy and light inside. It seemed to have a hint of fullgrain mustard added for an extra kick. As a member of English Heritage, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that non-members can visit the café without having to pay.

"The problem began with our arrival. We are 3 adults in our mid-60s and we had already climbed one set of steps to access the bar in the pub. We were escorted to our room up two more flights of narrow stairs. On entering our room, we could smell the damp in the room and discovered mould on walls behind furniture and in the corners of the window frames. We checked the prices of the evening meals on offer and there wasn't enough variety for our party and they were quite expensive. So we decided to eat out. I asked what time the pub closed and was told, when the last customer leaves. I thought that was a bit vague so I said that we would be back at 10-ish. We arrived back just after 10pm to find all entrances to the pub were fully locked up and we were unable to get in. I called the pub and, after a while, my call went to voicemail with a message that there was no one to answer my call. I left a voicemail, this was followed by another message to say that there was no one to respond to my voicemail! My party had got back into the car as it was raining and I drove to the front of the pub and sounded my horn for some time then drove to the back of the pub. At this point, a man appeared saying he had a message to come and let us in so, finally, we got in to the pub to access our room. We had an uncomfortable night but managed to get up for the early breakfast (great breakfast! and check-out. We raised all the damp and mould issues with the man who had let us in and, as one of us was asthmatic, told him that we would be leaving a poor review of the room and that they shouldn't book that room out to any one else until the issues were resolved."
