"We (4 chaps) had booked for a gentleman 's evening out to enjoy a nice steak dinner. Pub was very quiet and all night it remained largely empty with 1 other visible dinner plus a shooting party of around 12 in one of the other rooms. Atmosphere suffered and whilst its not in the team 's control it was very surprising on a Thursday night in the lead up to Christmas. Main two issues were the very limited steak options which given its one of their 'big ' selling points was very disappointing. Just 6-7 sirloin steaks left, everything else not available! Either they had a significant run on steaks or are not managing the rotation in the air dryer for the meat to ensure good supply. Once ordered we waited on the food and when it arrived it was luke warm to the point it could not melt the accompanying Confit Butter, needed the sauce to add some warmth and basically required you to inhale your steak just to have a warm meal. Server noted this but offered no apology just asked if we wanted them reheated...turning medium rare to medium or well done! Would have understood if the kitchen was very busy but at this point could not see any other occupied tables, even the shooting party were still just drinking. At £38 a steak it would have been a better experience and perceived value to have a hot meal that you could saviour. We have all eaten here before and had lovely roast dinners so very disappointed. The value versus price did not match and for a destination for steak, will think again before going back for a nice steak dinner with friends."

"Located in the picturesque village of Hindon in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside, we stumbled upon this charming pub while out for a leisurely drive in the sun. Initially, we had planned on just stopping for a quick drink at one of the outdoor tables. However, after perusing the menu, we couldn't resist indulging in a delicious lunch. Kathy opted for the megrim sole, while I enjoyed the calves liver. Both dishes were of exceptional quality and cooked to perfection. We were thoroughly impressed and will definitely be returning for another meal in the future."

"The Walnut Tree was prepared for Xmas parties and looked both festive and welcoming though perhaps more in the style of a restaurant rather than a pub, with a huge sign just inside the door instructing visitors to wait to be seated. The food presentation was excellent and the staff pleasant, but the food itself was sadly very badly cooked. In particular the Chicken Diane was very disappointing. The chicken was tough and the sauté potatoes soft on the outside but hard within. The sauce was very low on flavour and somewhat thin in texture. My wife went for the Breaded Whole tail Scampi which she was unable to finish. The tiny prawns or shrimps were almost tasteless under the hard breaded exterior and the accompanying chips were hard. Normally, we would have mentioned our disappointment but the staff were clearly extremely busy with a sudden influx of booked groups.,"

"one of the most complete lunch we've ever eaten. the environment is beautiful and the greeting is warm and welcoming. Many/most ingredients come from the gardens; if they eat outside, they can consume their time visually, the very food they eat. the menu is unique and well rounded. each dish is sympathetic prepared for its environment and lovingly presented for delightful taste. it was all delicious. there is nothing more to say, except they don't want to leave a single scrap. we have completely fallen for the pythouse kitchen and we come back in a few weeks with more family members, for another (of what we hope many) lunch in the garden."

"What a great country pub. We stayed for three nights and enjoyed every minute. The staff and locals are friendly and welcoming. The food is particularly great, very tasty, ample portions and plenty of choice. The sticky toffee pudding made by the young apprentice chef is particularly excellent even though I don’t usually usually eat puddings, ate half of my wife's, much to her annoyance Breakfasts has lots of tasty choices. The Sunday night pizzas are also great. The bar has a wide choice of drinks and the room we had was large and comfortable. Without doubt next time we're in the area, this will be our first choice of place to stay. 5 stars all round."
