"Stange place. On the one hand we would highly recommend the garden centre and especially the garden plants section, which is utterly superb (as is the fresh fruit and veg. section). But what a let down the restaurant food was. We ordered an avocado and humous sandwich which was served on what appeared to be cheap shop bought brown bread apparently un buttered. The thin smear of avocado on one slice and humous on the other (with dreary carrot grated on top) meant that it was uncomfortably dry, accentuated by un dressed salad and salty crisps. It needed a whole pot of tea to wash it down, otherwise would have been inedible. Meanwhile the other gourmet fish finger sandwich was served on what appeared to be cheap, unbuttered, shop bought white bread, making it claggy, un appetising and difficult to eat. Not worth the money. The staff were very pleasant though. Thoughts for what it 's worth, our experience is that we had planned a trip to Kelso, but had previously read your reviews on the Mayfield Garden Centre restaurant, and had decided to eat elsewhere. But we found that parking in Kelso Town Centre was impossible. The Mayfield Restaurant was busy and we had to queue, so perhaps other people also experienced our parking difficulties and veered towards the this place, simply because there is ample parking. We won 't return."

When we visit Kelso we always have a trip to this lovely garden centre. There is something for everyone to look at and enjoy. The cafe is fantastic, the service is excellent and the food is really good. Reasonable priced too.

We visited the garden centre in Kelso to purchase arts and crafts for my children to do in time for Christmas. But little did we know that they have recently removed the Art and Crafts from their shelves permanently. So disappointing.

I had the fish , mostly batter !!! It came with a handful of chips , cold mushy peas , dried out tartar sauce and the bread and butter was stale with margarine and not butter as offered on the menu . All in all cafe food at al a carte prices , don't eat here unless you enjoy being ripped off ... Also the bread had green mould on the edge , this place is a joke ! Speisekarte ansehen

Bought a bargain David Austin rose great. However we went in the restaurant and one of our party wanted a sausage roll that were piled up on the serving hatch. After queuing we were told we couldn't buy a sausage roll for 10mins. It took about 5 mins to get our two scones and 3 coffees and pay to be told again it would be another 10 mins to buy a sausage roll! Why? Ridiculous

As avid gardeners, we always make a point to visit new Garden Centres whenever we come across them. We were very impressed by the variety and quality of plants available for purchase, and were able to find two plants we had been searching for. After shopping, we stopped by the restaurant and enjoyed coffee and delicious scones that were much better than the ones at our own local garden centre.

I wrote a positive review of this cafe last August, but I was extremely disappointed during my recent visit. I ordered fish and chips with a slice of buttered bread for 14.95. The bread was cut diagonally in half and the fish was the same size. The batter was overcooked and hard, and the few chips I received were also hard. The portion size was small and resembled a child's meal, with the slice of bread seemingly added to make up for it. I could have easily had buttered bread at home if I wanted. In total, I spent 47.00 for three meals, which I felt was a complete waste of money. Speisekarte ansehen

Have been a regular customer here but not anymore, went with my wife for lunch ordered, the Pea and Ham soup which was terrible, it had been obviously watered down to the stage there was no substance left in it it was awful the worst soup we have ever had, table next to us said the place had went downhill recently, the standard of food was at times shocking the soup we had was shocking. to charge £6 each for a soup and a roll was a joke, the total bill for 2 soups, a piece of shortbread and tea for two £19 40. the time was 12. noon and the place was only two thirds full, perhaps this tells its own story. I checked the prices at 4 other premises in Kelso, the maximim i saw for a plate of soup...

I have visited Mayfield on numerous occasions, usually for a drink and a scone, which are always delicious. This time, I decided to try a Mediterranean omelette that was supposed to come with chips and salad. Even though I didn't want the chips, there was no reduction in price (costing almost £13). I thought I could at least get a larger side of salad instead, but unfortunately, the omelette was huge with what seemed like six eggs in it - too much for one person. The only vegetables I could identify were tomatoes and courgette, and the salad was disappointing. My first omelette had to be sent back as it was undercooked, almost raw inside. The staff had no issue replacing it, but the taste wa...
