"When I booked this room several weeks ago, I had a very helpful and pleasant conversation with the owner and we were really looking forward to our visit as the reviews were so good. My husband and I tested positive for Covid yesterday and are unwell. I tried to ring this pub 10 times with no answer, emailed them and sent a message through Facebook to say that it was not appropriate for us to come as we were infectious. We had no response. I was not given the information that we had to cancel seven days prior to our stay or we would be charged. I was going to ask if we could change the date for when we were no longer infectious. The money was taken out of my account today, with no response to my email or message. I have just managed to get through to the pub to be told quite rudely we could not change the date and the money had been taken out today as we have not given 7 days notice. The lady I was speaking to repeated several times “There is no Covid” which we find bizarre. It is on the news several times a week and thousands people are in hospital with it. We understand that some pubs are in a precarious position, but to show some empathy of our situation would have been welcome, or even a pleasant apology that we could not have a refund which we would have understood. I have not been able to find any terms and conditions on their website."

Such a great pub, all the staff and locals made me, my boys and dog feel so welcome! The food was great and we've enjoyed our visit, actually our three visits! We'll be back

Great food, excellent service and very friendly. Best meal of the week. Struggled to get a vegetarian meal elsewhere but here the veg curry was simply excellent. Fresh veg and nicely spiced

Wow, I'm surprised places like this still exist. Cold, unwelcoming bar area, staff that are disinterested, miserable, incapable and unsafe. Can't keep cask beer unless you enjoy drinking vinegar. Very basic overpriced food. Service with a grimace. Thank the lord I hadn't booked accommodation here, I can only imagine... The thing is, the other pub in the village at the falls, wow, amazing place. Go there!

We were 5 adults and 3 children. 1 of which needed high chair. The high chair was dirty which was not a great start. Really poor choice of beers too. I ordered a steak pie, came with hardly any veg although the veg was delicious. The pastry was gorgeous too but it wasn't a pie, it was a pie top. The gravy was oily and soo watery. Kids had sausage and chips and was good apparently. Gammon was also good. There was so argument going on in the kitchen, effing and Jeffing. Cost us £120 which I thought was shocking given the quality and portion size. Overall not impressed

Stayed here for one night. Upon arrival we found the “reception “ piled with rubbish and dirty. Check in was done at the bar by a lady who was obviously too unwell to undertake such duties. Room lots of dust, odd mix of lighting bulbs, bathroom clean but basic very small shower) Bed linen was clean. We didn’t eat in the restaurant because it closed at 8pm but they did provide a cold snack for us. The bar was not welcoming. We were fortunate that the weather was so good that we were able to sit outside and enjoy company with other visitors to the area. Sadly we would not return.

What a lovely place to be. Nestled in some of Yorkshires most beautiful views a 16th century coach house. Maintains it old world feel and the staff were very welcoming. Chatting to the owner very friendly evening at the bar. The food was amazing the Steak pie was to die for! Would recommend 100% if you want to stay in a traditional pub. If mod cons and sky tv is your bag this prob isn't for you but for a lovely relaxing stay its perfect. Ample safe parking too which was brilliant as some places not so easy. Will certainly be back next dales trip even if we are staying in a new location would be calling in for tea and a chat.

Highly recommended place to stay and explore the Wensleydale area. Took advantage of the 3 night B&B dinner deal. Food was excellent, with a good choice for breakfast and varied and changeable 3-course menu in the evening. Rooms were comfortable, ours had an ensuite with bath and shower. Being at the front and on the corner there was some road noise, even through the night. This wasn't a surprise as we knew the pub was right on the main Hawes to Leyburn A road and it didn't detract from an enjoyable stay. The pub has a good selection of local beer and other drinks and caters well for residents, locals and visitors staying elsewhere. We were well looked after and our bill, for 2 of us, worked...

"We had booked with booking.com . On arrival we were told that we didn't get breakfast included and that it would be £15 a head. We accepted this although thought was pretty steep for breakfast in a pub.The first morning we were given a menu clearly stating that breakfasts were included with all accommodation. I ordered poached eggs with smoked salmon and the other two ordered a full English breakfast which included homemade black pudding. The breakfasts arrived ,one of my poached eggs was runny, the other hard. The English breakfasts had no black pudding on the plates and when queried we were told that the deliveries hadn't arrived. Doesn't homemade imply made on or near the premises and as the owner states he is a butcher by trade I would expect he had made the black pudding. No alternatives were offered and presentation was distinctly lacking , with the baked beans poured over the other items. The next day I risked the full breakfast with black pudding which was lovely. But again the others had badly cooked poached eggs. We were offered no fruit juice, cereal or even toast and marmalade. On leaving we discovered the pub was unmanned , despite poor mobile signal. The owner turned up after 15 minutes. The bill was handed over, charging us for seven breakfasts when we had six, it was adjusted after he asked if one of us had had two breakfast one day? He served and cooked them so should know the answer to that. We were also then overcharged for nine coffee when three coffees and two teas had been ordered. Having had a family B and small hotel in York I advised him that standards were not what I was used to. I spoke to someone who had also visited recently and she stated a member of staff had charged them £15 per head for their similar breakfast where we were charged the menu price. Exceptionally poor menu, inaccurate advise saying breakfast included then charging us and probably the worst breakfast I have eaten in similar accommodation."
