"Firstly the food was fantastic, me and my mam popped in for some light lunch and the chicken and halloumi in the wraps were cooked spot on. Chips were lovely and salad fresh. Really impressed with the food, wait times and the prices, much cheaper...than Newcastle where I live and do take advantage of the deals with drinks! The toilets were also very well kept. Unfortunately the measures put in place due to Covid 19 were really poor. As a pregnant lady with my mother who had been shielding for months it was a surprise that everything seemed back to normal. You go in find yourself a table order on the app or at the bar. Despite it not being very busy I wonder if they had had a rush previously as we could not find a single clean table despite there being many vacant. We sat down at a dirty one I tried to order on the app the WiFi was not working (and then my own phone provider couldn’t get signal so that part was not the fault of Spoons) so I had to order at the bar. I asked for my table to be sanitised whilst there. Food came, very uninterested lady put the plates and cutlery down ON THE DIRTY TABLE that had obviously not been sanitised and sprinted off. In shock I then went after her but there was now a queue of workmen at the bar, I waited a minute but gave up. Going back to the table my mam wanted condiments which were not offered when food arrived, I looked around, couldn’t find any, told her about the queue and she said not to wait and shared my salad dressing instead (we only realised on the way out condiments were by the door, but this was not the way you enter the pub with the floor markings and sanitiser, so we never would have known). They have screens up which are filthy, covered in food splatter and finger marks so I assume these aren't cleaned often. There was also a table with 2 empty pints on that in the hour we were there no one had cleared away or sanitised. I appreciate having the app (when it works) limits contact which is great, but a better system of cleaning and maybe a door greeter like every single other pub/restaurant I have visited lockdown has, to inform guests of the changes and help maintain cleanliness standards. Maybe they are running on reduced staff? Also track and trace? This seemed completely optional and we were never asked if we had left our details so I’m sure a lot of people don’t. All in all I didn’t feel confident that we were ‘Covid safe’ and will not be returning until measures have improved or the risk of Covid is minimal."
