The black pudding was beneath a thyme hash brown, and pancetta with a dippy egg. The combination of tastes was excellent: like a miniature world-class breakfast. The soufflé was smooth with a strong rich taste.

The guy who reviewed this first is obviously a muppet. Chorley is around 20 miles from Holcombe which is in fact in Ramsbottom. The pub is now back to it's best after new ownership and a refurb. Beer is good, always busy with a real quality fire. Food is good too. Great location with a superb Indian facing. Give it a go.

hit and miss. this place had an overhaul and seems to be much better than old, although they can still have a bad one! rural location in holcolme village parking lot too small for busy periods - old world art space. quite expensive, but if they get a good eating, its worth it-staff attentive, but they don't seem to know how to deal with complaining! 50-50

I knew this was the place for me upon walking through the door and spotting a multitude of dog bowls. I considered bringing my dogs to dine with me, but they’d try to steal all of my food and just can’t hold the level of conversation that I require in my dinner guests. we have eaten this evening at the school, we have expected a nice meal as I would eat there recently. we ordered to start mosquitoes, the mosquitoes were good (although small,) but the skallops came on a cold teller so quickly went cold. we both ordered steaks, a rare medium, both well made and one was very fat, we asked them to replace them, waited for 20 minutes. when the bill came, we thought they might have reduced it or offered us at least a free drink, but nothing was offered. we complained, but we said there was a policy not to reduce the bill. we had to feel very unhappy about a meal we were looking forward to.

John guy is clearly a fantasist, for example he has the address wrong, holcombe is no where near chorley. I live in the village and drink in the pub and would have heard had this happened, be assured it did not. He is also lying about the prices, the shoulder is about £12, although I can't be exact. The food is good, homemade, locally sourced and reasonably priced. The staff are lovely and the chef, who in reality is a very nice unassuming chap, and incidentally only part owner. I really would reccomend lunch in front of the log fire. The question is which other local eating establishment do we think john guy owns, answers on a postcard please!

I have recently exceeded an ambitious by designing a pub sign (logo and branding) for the shoulder of mutton in ramsbottom. I was also given in order for photography, which is great, as I really wanted to integrate the two to produce a whole package. Chef chris yates has returned to home after a year or so with a brand new wine menu. the cynicals among them may weep at this assessment, but the courts looked so good that we had to come back on Friday as paying customers. (I rarely eat at work). in any case I have said before that chris is one of the best cooks in the northwest and these little tellers below were the most reached food we ever had at the shoulder.

This was a special occasion, so we wanted somewhere that would be a nice treat, and we'd heard plenty of wonderful things about The Shoulder of Mutton in Bury, so we decided to give it a try. The first thing you notice as you come through pretty Holcombe Village is that the venue looks like a classic large pub. There's good parking, but I imagine that gets busy quickly. It also has picnic tables just off the car-park area, ideal for if it's a sunny day and you fancy a drink in the sunshine. We booked a Sunday lunch for 5 based on various local reviews and the fact the chef had worked for various high profile reputed chefs. What an unmitigated disaster. On a busy Sunday lunch service with a christening going on in the background the staff failed to identify our reserved table, after having studied the menu we were set! However it took 3 prompting of the front of house staff before anyone seemed interested in taking our orders. Our starters arrived after 15 mins which were okay. After the dishes had been cleared we were anticipating a hearty main course. After 10 minutes the 2 steaks arrived but no signs of the other dishes, the lamb specials, after being patient and waiting...re...
