"Maybe I just went on a busy night given all the good reviews but not seeing it myself. Scallops starter was fine, the main pasta meal could have been knocked up on a £3.50 budget of Tesco value stock. Wine was insanely overpriced for what was on offer. Anyone smoking/vaping was herded out the back in the pitch black with no light up some steep steps because they clearly didn’t want anyone out the front (fair enough but at least offer a viable and safe alternative). Had to ask repeatedly for water on the table and they forgot to bring out one of the party’s main meal. £42 service charge at the end and I’m not entirely sure what that was for because the service provided was the bare minimum. Place was absolutely packed so they must be doing something right but I definitely couldn’t see what it was."

"Called in late Bank Holiday and welcomed including the dog) by very friendly staff. Unfortunately not serving food but was given a recommendation. Stayed for drinks and chatted to the locals including the very pleasant and personable manager/land lady. Excellent decor and atmosphere and will certainly go back to try the restaurant."

"had loved a long weekend. so much so that I go back in august with different people to show them. the rooms are beautiful. clean bed linen, beautiful soft fresh towels. toilet articles, hairdryer, rich machines. fiona and david thought of everything. hospitality is very good. not too much annoying. eating in the pub is nicely cooked by elvis. charlotte is very tender. the only difference was that there was no coffee machine in the room as described in the description of what was in the room. but there were no coffee cafeesachets, teessacks and beautiful cookies. what can I say, but thank you for a beautiful weekend. to the next"

"The Pack Horse is a rare gem that seems to balance being BOTH a terrific pub full of locals and tourists, AND a Fine Dining Experience without any hint of pretention. Pretty much everything about our experience was great. It is quite expensive, but IMHO it's worth it. We had a cocktail each a cocoa espresso martini and a signature old fashioned. Both were outstanding with surprising flavours that really worked. The 3 course menu is £52pp (August 2024) and definitely worth it, in that it includes a pre starter (we had a fantastic gazpacho with home baked bread and herby butter). The wine list is quite pricey but there are excellent choices by the glass. Service was great. This is not just a(nother) gastro pub."

"4 of us went for a meal on a Friday evening, we booked in advance but it wasn't that busy and we would of been able to get a table even if we hadn't. Some of us had starters and mains some had mains and desserts, I was really naughty and had all 3 . The Packhorse is one of those places you wish was closer to home it's a lovely pub with very friendly staff and all of the meals were excellent, we would 100% return if we are ever in the area again. If you are reading this review to decide whether or not to eat here then believe me do not hesitate get yourself along there you will not be disappointed.
