The White Horse Public House

I have to admit I have never eaten at the White Horse but for a beer drinker it is exceptional. 8 ales served from the cask in tip top condition plus ciders wines etc. beautiful on the outside, stepping back in time inside a joy to visit

Just the place for a relaxing lunch. Please don't expect Farrow Ball paint or a chef that just wants to show off. This is a very old fashioned pub with beautifully kept beers and food that appeals to everyone. I think the prices are the best in the area.

We arrived at 12:10 and there was already lots of cars parked along the village to have the chance of getting a meal here. Simple, healthy beautiful looking food and a great range of beers impressed me very much. I will definitely be coming back for more another day! Speisekarte ansehen

Our walking group had lunch here, and most had the excellent value lunches rather than the usual sandwiches. We ate under cover in the garden (where there were lots of tables) as is our preference these days. Lasagne, Lamb macaroni and quiche were all good and excellent value. Tables could perhaps do with a renovation

Hurrah for the White Horse! The only proper pub in the area. Real beer (changes often with a few trusty regulars), proper pub food, friendly locals, dog friendly I wish it could be airlifted to within 400 yards of my house so I don’t have a 5k walk to get there and back but it’s absolutely worth it! Please never sell and have someone turn you into another boring gastro pub! And also thanks for the takeaways during lockdown!

Listed as of special interest in the Camra guide to heritage pubs in the south east, its a lovely low ceilinged pub with a beautiful exterior and two main rooms inside one of which has an inglenook fire place. The larger lounge is less inviting but there’s also a lovely garden and al fresco seating in front. A wide range of very well kept beers are dispensed direct form the barrel and the staff are friendly and helpful. Full Covid measures are in place which is reassuring. Speisekarte ansehen

Visited here recently on a Sunday for lunch after completing a circular walk around Hedgerley. Friendly welcome and shown to a table in the garden which was quite spacious. Service was good, good choice of guest ales and a reasonable choice of food for lunch. I chose the roast beef which whilst they serve a generous plateful I didn’t find the overall taste and quality to be that good. Our table and bench seat were on a slope and there was too big a gap between the table and bench, the bench wouldn’t move so that didn’t help the eating experience.

I have been using this pub for 20 years plus. The eight or so cask ales, which are sourced from all over the UK, change regularly and it is unusual for the same beer to figure twice in a year. The exception is the 'house ' beer which is Rebellion IPA. All are immaculately kept and there is always a range of styles and strengths for which the prices are reasonable. The interior of the pub us quite small and there is at least one heated marquee attached to the pub which is fully heated and furnished. Been here a couple of times–the first by chance, the second on purpose with a beer lover in tow. I knew he’d like it. It’s one of those proper ale pubs with a menu of interesting beers chalked up on a blackboard. And it seems to have won various awards. It’s a beautiful, small, traditional cottage pub with two cosy bar rooms and a hatch where you order your drinks. First time I visited, it was summer, and I sat outside in the pretty garden that climbs up a slope. They serve a lunch buffet of quality cold food, and I had a lovely piece of cheese-potato-and-chive pie with salad and slaw Everything I’ve drunk here was very well kept.
