Great little boozer...great ale and bear pool table...well worth a visit.

Recommended by a friend, the food here was amazing. A huge variety of middle eastern dishes to choose from, I would happily have tried anything on the menu. The 'dirty chai ' at the end and chilli hit chocolate finished off the meal perfectly.

a big brunch of mirza shakshuka made us wish more (or at least the recipe!) my partner said it was the best he had eaten in a long time. praise them! beautiful atmosphere and friendly staff. we were one of the few tables that stood up before the food service they started early for us. we have not reviewed any of the games or books offered, but loved how to buy a home plant to take away. A great brunch of Mirza Shakshuka left us wanting more (or at least the recipe)! My partner said it was the best thing he’d eaten in a long time. Praise indeed! Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. We were one of just a few tables who turned up ahead of food service which they started early for us. We didn’t check out any of the games or books on offer but loved how you could buy a houseplant to take away.

We love this place. I was most distraught when the lockdown hit as I could not get my hands on those lamb balls in yoghurt sauce. The marinated chicken thighs are a close 2nd. Cakes are always lovely too. The service is always friendly and fast. Love the decor but understand it's not to everyone's taste. The place has a relaxed Bohemian feel. Go there if you are thinking about. I/we will be coming back as regulars.

Had been recommended to visit and so glad we did. Had noted opening times so planned to visit late afternoon. Menu had a good selection although some had already sold out. Decided on five dishes to share and every single one was delicious with their lovely flavours a mixture of cold and hot dishes. Staff were friendly and the restaurant had a lovely feel. Enjoyed a takeaway late lunch for a birthday celebration. On collection social distancing was well organised and observed. Small hitch with two dishes being left behind were very courteously delivered to our door. Food was enjoyed by our small group garden party. I have to particularly big up the Batata Harra, but in truth all dishes and generous accompaniments were delicious and super fresh and tasty. When we are all the other side of these difficult times, I can 't wait to eat in so I can view the pornographic artwork talked of in a previous comment. We could all do with getting out more, perhaps an art gallery? I wish this wonderful local business continued support and success.

The Alex is a great local, stocking 3-4 well kept real ales, with a cosy atmosphere which makes it a nice calm place to grab a pint. They also serve some nice food at around 4-6 quid a plate, with some interesting dishes in there. It's refreshing to see a pub doing food and not completely altering the layout and feel of the place; the Alex is still a pub, it just happens to do food too. It has a dart board and pool table, as well as a cool little jukebox and a plethora of different board games. It's telling that the local university games club comes and plays their games at the Alex; the tables are a good size and the landlord clearly goes out of his way to accomodate everyone. This cosy 1920 's style eatery ticks a lot of boxes with its lebanese/turkish style mezze dishes and plenty of board games for kids to play with, plus friendly staff but BEWARE if you are bringing your kids, or if you don 't like to look at drawings of giant penises or people in various pornographic positions while you eat. The drawings are high up but still hard to ignore as you have to walk right by them as you come in. Luckily we found a table in the inner room without these off-putting 'decorations ' and greatly enjoyed the Baba Ghanoush and toasted halloumi bites.
