"I previously left a 5-star review for this restaurant, but today was a different experience. There was no staff present when we wanted to place our order. I asked a lady sitting down (who turned out to be a dining room assistant) if she could help, but she said she had not started yet. We waited for 10 minutes with a child for someone to attend to us at the carvery or at least to let us know how long we would have to wait. By the time someone finally came to clear our table, my cup of tea and two meals were cold. The dining room assistant seemed disgruntled and did not ask if our food was alright. She left a mess on the table even though she knew we were having desserts. I had to shout and request for a clean up. She quickly wiped up the mess with tissue paper, but it was not completely clean. We are regular customers, often coming in large groups, and we are hoping to have our usual amazing dining room lady back. If she has left, we may have to reconsider. The service and cleanliness were shocking and unacceptable."

"Went in for an early dinner at 11.30am, but were told they don't take orders for dinner until 12pm. We just sat at a table, had drinks and chatted for a bit so it wasn't a problem. I had macaroni cheese with bacon and my nephews ordered off the kids menu. Good selection on the kids menu, usually it's about four things, but there's had a much larger choice which was good. My Mum had the caeser salad. Food was very tasty and came in good time. The lady who served us was chatty, friendly and very smiley. Good experience all round."

"This was the worst carvery I have ever had. Waited for the guy to come out of the kitchen to carve the meat for what seemed like an age. We were seated by an open window with the wind blowing in we asked the waitress if we could close it, blinds filthy which in turn left hands filthy. The food was totally cold. The meat was extremely fatty but managed to get a small piece without fat. The meat was tough. In the end we gave up because it was too cold to eat. Informed the waitress of our disappointment and her response was well you should have said and walked off. Never again."

"We literally stumbled upon this gem whilst doing some walks in the area. Despite being slightly muddy from our walks, we were welcomed by the friendly staff and invited to find a seat. There are plenty of tables and benches outside if the weather allows it! This we were able to to and once ordered we moved outside to a bench. The menu on the table had plenty to choose from and there were specials on a blackboard. We chose a pot of tea for 2, cheese ham toastie and a panini with black pudding, bacon and Brie. Each of these came with salad tortilla chips. There was enough tea for almost 6 cups and the food was very tasty. The ham in the toastie was a thick slice of ham and not just a wafer of processed meat. This all cost £16 which we thought was a bargain. An amazing little oasis in an area that does not offer much in terms of eating opportunities! The staff were extremely welcoming and efficient. There is ample parking in their carpark and there is a restroom onsite. If you’re in need of a cuppa and snack, this place will not disappoint"

"Food is nice enough, BUT...... they don't provide you with the the itemised bill to your table for review (which I found odd) and instead they ask you to pay at the counter on the way out. We (6 of us) asked to pay separately and there was then no transparency, with the waiter claiming not to be able to read the hand writing on the bill. The charge seemed high for what we'd ordered. This seems to have happened to other people who have visited according to these reviews, and might explain why the place was empty on a Friday night. Used to be one of my favourite places a few years ago, but this all seemed a bit shifty. Don't think I'll go back again sadly."

"The restaurant was not impressive. The menu offered typical pub fare that felt unoriginal and unexciting. Nothing on the menu stood out to me. I ordered the sizzling chicken fajitas and halloumi kebabs to share with a friend, but there was not enough sour cream provided for the fajitas. The side salad was lackluster, with just iceberg lettuce and tomato wedges. We almost felt unwelcome as my large group was the last in the pub. Overall, I do not plan on returning to this restaurant."

"While visiting family in Penistone we met at Cafe Creme for a late breakfast. We had the best coffee, I had a small (meaning less milk) flat white. I was totally surprised. The coffee is roasted in small batches by a local man. It was superbly unexpected in this small town. In addition, they had a huge range of homebaked gluten and dairy free cakes, to name a few Battenberg, Bakewell cake and tart, salted caramel, lemonade, and Victoria sponge. We shared a piece of salted caramel as a gluten tolerant person I thought the quality was superb. The cafe is run by a mother-daughter team. We got to meet the baker as she brought a beautiful Battenberg cake. Delightful spot, made me wish that I lived there."

"Oh my goodness. I have never been served by such rude waitresses. This was my first visit to this restaurant, and unfortunately, it will also be my last. I will not be recommending it to my friends or colleagues. We ordered food and coffee, and then I asked for a cold drink. The waitresses seemed disinterested and unhelpful when I inquired about them. This happened at 10:30 in the morning, so I can't imagine how poor the customer service must be later in the day. The management of this establishment needs to reconsider their hiring process. The food was good, and we didn't have any issues with not being provided with cutlery or napkins. However, I would be ashamed if my child ever spoke to such disrespectful individuals. On a positive note, I noticed there was a cafe across the parking lot that looked promising. I would suggest giving it a try instead."

"A huge thank you to all the McDonalds Staff at Tankersley firstly for your understanding of my predicament automatic car stuck in the center of the car park that would not start) your swift action to cordon off parking spaces so other cars could navigate around me safely, the hot drinks you brought out to me, the warm hi viz coat you lent me and general pleasant attitude from all of the staff especially Andrea who was a huge help, asking some of the local delivery drivers if they could help. Although this was not the most pleasant experience for me I was very surprised by the numerous generous offers from not only the staff but the general public to assist me. A big thank you to the stranger and his partner who managed to work out how to get an automatic Jaguar into neutral so it could be pushed out of the way while waiting for the recovery vehicle and sorry to all the people that had to navigate around me in the car park prior to this for over 2 hrs. Thank you Andrea and the rest of the McDonalds Team."

"Came here for the first time in years Monday as we took my mum out for a meal. I arrived around 45 minutes early but the staff were lovely they let us get seated and we had coffee when arrived and it was brilliant. Ordered the food great lady at the bar taking orders really friendly. Food come and was pleasantly surprised at the portion size. Now I have given only 3 stars due to 1 member of staff been rude to my mother. My mother has worked in catering for nearly 30 years and once we had eaten my mum tried to clear our table she always does everywhere we go and this member of staff was so rude to my mother I do that in a disapproving tone of voice like my mother was a child after that the same member of staff brought pudding to the table and the mucky lucks and pulling her nose up at my mother she didn 't even speak to my mother bringing her pudding she just shoved it on the table infront of her and mucky lucked her. Now everyone had bad days but a bit of respect for people goes alone way I think this member of staff should change her job because she isn 't suited to working with people at all and if we had been there any longer i would have said something as she made my mum feel uncomfortable. But on the other hand every other member of staff was brilliant nothing was too much trouble they were all nice and polite . I will be booking again but will be insisting that member of staff does not serve us. Overall was a lovely meal .would have been 5 stars"

"I had a stater withch was a garlic bread with out cheese and our mains where chicken tikka curry it was very tasty and hot it come with a propperdom and a nan bread it was so filling and my fraind had a clacic beef lasagne with chips and it was very yummy and scrummy in her tummy the lasagne was very sausey and the service was apparently brill Scott and rowan was out off this world Scott was very friendly and helpful and he gose above and beyond as it was the first time we have been and will definitely be coming back thank you Abby and Lorraine xx"

"Around an hour late and food was terrible. Clap cold calzone that looks nothing like a calzone and has no taste whatsoever. Separate mixed meat swimming in grease and also cold. Rang up to find out where my order was when it was already late and was told 5 minutes which turned out to be 40 mins. Don’t waste your time and money here. Only positive was a polite delivery driver."

"we had a great breakfast, panini, coffee and warm milk with our three under 7 years girls today. what a cozy place and the dame that runs this tee room is simply wonderful. the coffee (latte) is as tasty as they may look out of the and hope the size of the coffee machine. it is rare to find an authentic, traditional tea room where they can have such a pleasant time and tasty eating, but this fits the bill."

"We found this place quite by accident and have been a few times now over the last few months. The food has been consistently wonderful and Martin and his team have always been kind, welcoming and friendly. I really don't get the bad reviews as that has not been our experience at all. "I had breakfast at this restaurant on Saturday and everything was delicious. The eggs could have been cooked a little longer for my liking, but the veggie sausages were amazing. The staff were very busy and there was always a line, so a bigger location would be helpful. However, I understand that it might lose some of its cozy charm. The homemade milkshakes, cakes, and brownies were all delicious. The staff were wonderful."

"We have never had a chinese meal as awful. Started off with the telephone order, very rude person on the other end. My little boy ordered spare ribs, and that is exactly what they were, RIBS! With no meat at all on them, i really am not exaggerating. Our chicken curry was floating in what appears to be oil, and thats all we could taste. Oil!!! My daughters had salt and pepper chips and the chips were raw! Pancake rolls were absolutely awful, no meat in them, literally just beansprouts nothing else. Overall if i could score out of 10 i wouldn’t even give it a 1, it would be a minus 5. Absolutely disgusting, both service and food. The delivery driver was polite enough n thats it."

"Wow- I’m so angry! Please someone reassure me that this is not normal behaviour! I’ve just been told by the restaurant manager here that I shouldn’t be in his restaurant/bistro because “I’m not all there in the head” and I “shouldn’t have been let out!”I’m absolutely astonished and find it hard to believe that I would be spoken to in this way anywhere in public let alone by the restaurant manager!This all happened because I had forgotten the last part of my food order and was told by the lady at the till that if I needed to go back and check then I’d have to queue again as they were too busy. As I hadn’t paid and wasn’t willing to queue again I told her not to bother putting the order through. I didn’t really want to make a big deal out of it. On the way out I was confronted by the manager; red faced and sweat on his brow, who asked me what the problem was and asked me if I was “Alright in the head?!” I was so shocked and taken aback by this remark that I didn’t really know the best way to reply! Doing my best not to get angry I told him that I was upset and really wasn 't used to being spoken to like this, to which he replied, “well if you can’t handle being in a busy place like this then you shouldn’t be out!” He then kept badgering me, asking who I was out with and he didn’t want me in his restaurant and that I should get out ... All of this in front of families eating their dinners! Anyhow despite feeling really angry and quite upset by this point I thankfully managed to keep my cool and so went on to leave through the back gate of the restaurant where I’d been pointed to go outside. The manager must have realised by this point that I was trapped in a fenced area here and therefore needed his assistance for me to escape- On the plus-side it was pretty funny seeing the look on his face when he had worked out that he needed to come to my rescue in order for me to leave through the naughty door! Here in the car park I was greeted my partner Vicky and the kids who had managed to make their escape unscathed through the regular entrance. 2 or 3 minutes later the security guard/car park attendant came over to check with us that I wasn’t planning on returning.. He was a lovely chap with a friendly Australian accent and seemed genuinely concerned as he could tell I’d had a mouthful from his boss.. a real gent! He had been sent across the car park to tell me not to come back but thankfully he was a lot more diplomatic and good enough to recommend another local place to eat!it’s not often I write bad reviews but given the circumstances here and my general disgust for anyone that would ever seemingly discriminate against those with special needs.. I feel that in this instance it’s well-within reason. (Whatever I’d done to convince this guy that I wasn’t completely 'all there’ in his words is beyond me!"

"My son and I have been here several times in the last decades since my wife I met in the city died. it is not to use an old-fashioned word audience. it has a local customer and visitor how we appreciate the excellent food, such as cakes and chips, spam and no mention of the cordon bleu/nouvelle cuisine! my sohn has a standard B/Fast of rührei, mushrooms and buzz. it is in the perfect - the cunning egg, that is, but not this time, where it resembled an omelette. why is it-and my son experienced a similar problem in Settle-the chefs don't cook a touch. james martin and his ilk often tell us that one of the first tasks is on course! Maybe they should learn scramble eier, which is more bavarde, like a French omelette than a highway cafe omelet!"

"This place was once a popular destination until it closed in Spring having lost its way as a country pub. After being closed for many months it has recently been taken over by local people. In just a few short weeks it has been restored back to a cosy and charming country pub, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The old chintzy interior has been replaced by light wood and lots of quirky fittings which reflect the area’s mining and rural history. Lovely roaring fire, plenty of comfy seating and a very welcoming ambience. Upon speaking to the staff it seems that great efforts have been taken to get it open as a pub for now with meals to follow at the end of January. I hope when the food arrives it will be unpretentious and hearty pub fare with gravy not ‘Jus’ and custard not ‘milk foam’. The new management team seem to have captured what people want from a country pub Warm welcome and comfortable atmosphere. It only reopened on Saturday 1st December after weeks of intense activity. I can say as a local welcome back, you’ve been missed."
