"Went for a mid week evening meal. Arrived early so had a drink in the bar first. What a friendly atmosphere! Just how a pub should be. Neepsend blonde on for Real ale fans. Which is by the way magnificent. Went into the dining room to eat. Packed with character and shared the atmosphere with the tap room. The food was a very pleasant surprise. An imaginative menu and after sampling some, I presume the chef is very talented indeed. Definitely a step up from pub food but without the price ; happy days. Staff are first rate all round and leave you smiling. Can't wait to return!"

"We visited with friends yesterday (15/5/22) after a trip out to a local beauty spot and had booked in advance. We arrive 30 mins early so sat in the garden with some drinks. We went in at our booked time and had to wait 20...mins for the table. Once seated, we were not asked if we wanted any more drinks and we had to ask a passing waiter to take our food order. The meal arrived in a timely fashion but was not of the best quality and certainly not worth the extortionate prices! The chicken roast was the best of the bunch and was enjoyed by those of us who had it. The lamb roast was fatty and tough, the wagu burger was ‘ok’ (the bacon was described as crispy it was not and the fries were smothered in Parmesan and were basically on a par with McDonald’s fries At £21, this was beyond overpriced!! I would say the biggest rip off of the day however was the kids pizza hot dog and fries. It was a tiny finger roll, one half size hot dog sausage with a bit of cheese and chorizo on and a few ‘McDonalds style’ fries. No side and not enough to fill a child. How much did they charge for this meal that I could have thrown together for 75p? £7.50!!! Absolutely beyond a joke! At no point did the staff ask if we wanted any more drinks and when we complained about the price of the hot dog, the waitress just said ‘well that’s our prices’!! We had every intention of having another bottle of wine and more soft drinks and also desserts (probably another £70) but we were so disgusted by the service and quality (and cost) of the food, we left. £130 for 4 adults and 4 children for 1 course and one drink each! We eat out regularly and are happy to pay for good food and service, but we would not give this business any more of our well earned money and will not return."

"Visited for breakfast today. Nice environment, clean, light and airy. It can be a bit noisy as there are high ceilings and hard floors, it wasn't too bad today we sat next to the wall which I think helped rather than being in the middle. Service was good and prompt, food arrived quickly and on hot plates (I love that) had a ranged of breakfast items from granola, breakfast butty, eggs Benedict. All very nice definitely no complaints. One negative for us on this visit, we asked for a pot of hot water as the pots of tea are quite small. We were told we couldn't have a pot of hot water we had to order more tea!!! Couldn't get our heads round this as we go out regularly for breakfast at various establishments, no one has ever questioned having a pot of hot water. We spoke to another member of staff who said we could have ONE pot only, we only wanted one in the first place. Just a bit weird really. All in all 8/10 and would return, fair price and value for money. The farm shop is expensive but it is very good produce."

"Visited here on a Saturday night, positives first plenty of staff and warm welcome. Set menu was £30pp which is rather expensive for what you get. Ordered the king prawn starter, duck for main and choc orange fudge cake for dessert. Unfortunately the prawns hadn't been cleaned and its fine if it's the old one thats been missed by mistake, but not all four. It seemed that this dish wasn't prepared properly. I informed the lovely waitress and she was v apologetic. The main duck with one piece of pak choi came with the standard small side order of vegetables come on chef, cauliflower cheese and New potatoes served with a Chinese dish? The dessert was nice. Some tables were very squashed together and I was very surprised and I think the other customers too, to be told wine wasn't served by the glass. Had to wave at the waiting staff twice to ask for drinks too. Over the years I've dined here a few times but I think it's stuck in a time warp and not in a good way. So unfortunately I won't be returning due to the lack of attention to detail."

"Top tip: If you're going when it's cold, dress for outside weather because it's freezing inside. I had the early bird special, which was great value for money. The onion bajhis were large and very tasty, and the pickle tray and curries were delicious. The staff were polite and friendly. However, the temperature inside the restaurant was extremely cold. We were seated next to a window and had to eat wearing our coats. It was so cold that we ended up leaving most of our main course and naan, and had to cancel our dessert and coffee that we had already paid for. It was a disappointing night out as the cold temperature ruined our experience, and we were not the only ones complaining about it. Unfortunately, we will not be visiting this restaurant again. The car parking was also a nightmare."

"as usual, eating here was great. there was of us that we pre-ordered and paid one per head deposit. we sat at the arrival at about minutes before we tried to signal a waitress to take our drinks orders. one more before they asked for our starters and netzen. the food came together, which was great. the only part of our experience is the older lady who works there. I've experienced her lack of customer service label before, and she hasn't disappointed again. when the bill was received, our payment was not accepted by the total invoice. I flew it in the bar to say it was right. a colleague of her (a pleasant guy who led the order) explained to her that she had to be taken off. the bill was then reduced. when we left, the old dame rushed outside and asked where our payment was proof for the deposit. fortunately we had a confirmation about us, but they simply found quite rude and quite aggressive. the restaurant must cut the bonds with the individual, it has a great deterant."

"I 'm not usually a fan of Chain Pubs but I can 't fault it. It does exactly what it says on the tin. The food is cheap but nice, the service is quick,efficient and very polite. The quality of the drinks for the price is fantastic. Had two meals and two alcoholic drinks for £19. Yes some of it is probably microwaved but for the price I can 't complain. I had a curry and it had lots of taste and plenty of chicken. I also like that the menu states the calories and allergy information. The place is clean, a tad old fashioned but I can live with that. I 'm not sure what it 's like later in in the evening, but for a quick evening meal at teatime I couldn 't fault it. The only complaint my partner has is sachet sauces, he hates them. I don 't use them so it 's fine by me ."

"I went to the restaurant for the Thursday special menu, and it was delicious! The service was excellent, and the restaurant had a nice atmosphere. One thing to note is that the restaurant doesn't have a liquor license, so you can bring your own alcohol but can't purchase any on-site. This wasn't a big issue for us, but we found the soft drinks to be a bit pricey. I will definitely be returning, and next time I'll bring my own beers!"

"I ordered a burger which was served on a wooden board without any garnish or fries, for which I had to pay extra. The room was decent, but not luxurious as advertised. The double bed was small and uncomfortable for tall people. The bathroom radiator was broken and constantly emitting heat, making the room very hot. When I tried to make coffee in the morning, I found there was no milk or teaspoons, but the staff promptly sent supplies when I called reception. We were informed that breakfast ended at a time that was not convenient for us, and we were not offered any alternatives. Comparing this experience to a recent stay at a Premier Inn for half the price, we had a much better night's sleep. I hope the management can make improvements to restore the former glory of this historic pub, as it's sad to see it not living up to its potential."

"Looking forward to our weekly indian, we decided to try this place, told min to pick up still waiting when we got there... got home poppadoms were lovely, got to main course and never been as let down, ordered king prawn tandoori to prawns and half a tub of onions not worth pounds for a main when it only consisted of this. Garlic naan was like it had been cooked the previous evening and re heated as it was too dry and stone cold, king prawn curry was bland, had small prawns in it which to me didnt make sense?! What's the point of advertising KING PRAWNS if your only serving small prawns?? Still hungry and definitely Wont be returning"

"Came here with family for some lunch after long walk. We'll start with the place itself: It's lovely. What a fantastic location! The beer garden is perfect and overlooks the reservoir which I bet is lovely at sunset. The actual building is so nicely kept...and is timeless inside. The bar is fantastically furnished and looks great. Our only gripe was the placement of the toilets. The women's is up a very steep flight of stairs but we suspect it is a listed building so it's doubtful anything can be done to rectify that. Moving on to the service. Mixed, very very mixed. We were greeted' by a boy who had a pair of headphones in at the bar. He told us to get a menu and someone would be out to see us. We did as instructed while the boy continued looking at his phone at the bar. We waited about two minutes for a young woman to come and take our order and she was a massive improvement over the boy at the bar. She was polite and very helpful with a family member's allergies which is always a good thing. We placed our food and drink order with her and she relayed it to the boy on the bar. Took him minutes to do drinks. We were sat near the bar so we could clearly see the bar wasn't busy, he seemed more bothered about whatever was on his phone than anything else which reflects really badly on such a lovely little place. When the boy had finished the drinks he plonked them in front of us with little care and left us to make up our mind which drink was which (also left us to get our own beer mats which we thought was pretty lazy). Moving onto the food: it's nothing short of fantastic. We ordered a fish and chips, steak pie, meat and potato pie and a mini meat and potato pie. It all tastes fantastic and came out piping hot. It also came pretty quickly too (about mins) which was fantastic. The girl from earlier who brought the food was really lovely and polite and came to check back on the table to make sure everything was ok. We only regret that we didn't have room for dessert. Food was quite pricey but it was of really great quality so no complaints at all there. We were brought the bill promptly after asking for it. Total came to just over for four people with one round of drinks. The drinks were really quite pricey and that was our only real issue with what was being served. Overall; fantastic food and, bar the boy on the bar, really quite lovely staff. We saw other members of staff ferrying food and they all came across as polite and attentive. We will certainly be coming back, we just hope we're served by a better bar man next time."

"After being regular customers for at least the past 10 years, tonight's visit will definitely be our last. While the food has always been excellent (in fact, the best Indian food in Barnsley), the restaurant and service have gradually declined. Tonight, we found the restaurant to be freezing, heated by only one small heater. Despite being the only customers in the restaurant, the service was incredibly slow - we waited over 45 minutes for our main course after our poppadoms, while takeaway customers were served before us. The waitress seemed more interested in her phone than in providing good customer service. After complaining, we finally received our meal without even an apology, and had to ask for the bill. As we were leaving, we were informed abruptly that the restaurant would be closing the next week. It's no surprise, as with proper management, this restaurant could be a success. Despite our 10 years of loyal patronage, tonight's experience was the last straw. We will take our business to other Indian restaurants in Barnsley that appreciate our loyalty. It seems that loyalty means nothing here."

"On the recommendation of my sister-in-law (who had been here only a couple of weeks ago) after a visit to hospital we decided to call here for lunch. A member of staff asked us to find a table and she would come with menus for us. She did arrive very shortly after we had sat, brought the menus, took drink orders and then brought cutlery and condiments. There was 3 adults one ordered braised steak and gravy, one had chicken pie and I had steak n ale pie. The braised steak came with mash potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and plenty of delicious gravy, we thought it came with vegetables but had to order separately (peas and carrots). Both pies came with fresh home cooked chips and mushy peas and a separate jug of gravy for each person. The chips were delicious and very enjoyable indeed, my pie was a little hard on the crust but the filling was so full of steak I enjoyed every bit. We all said how good the food was but on our next visit all having the braised steak and Yorkshire pudding. Excellent service, lovely food and a really nice atmosphere. The total price for 3 meals and drinks was less than £38. Was pleased with the pub being dog friendly and was so lovely seeing at least 3 dogs in (all well behaved too). Will certainly be back and recommend to others."

"Hello fellow chinese enthusiasts, A week ago we travelled to the beautiful town of Barnsley to try this fine establishment, and I must say Barnsley is not as beautiful as advertised on tv. However, this chinese delighted us and our tastebuds also. To start with, we ordered salt and pepper chips. These were unlike any other salt and pepper chips we have ever witnessed and indulged upon. This place has made a name for itself, nevermind manny on the map it’s more like Barnsley on the map, due to this takeaway! Bossman seemed very average to the naked eye, but he made the salt and pepper chips different to anyone has ever made them in the history of chips. My ex said they were different to any others, they lied. Bossman dif not lie, I love people who speak the truth, like bossy wossy. Although he did not crack a smile, he holds a very special place in our hearts. We thought they were perfect, however our 3 year old son named Dave Kebab said he wished for a few more onions since he is a little bit of a weirdo. But ignore him, like we do. Next up is the noodles, I counted 127.5 noodles in the small container, which is pretty standard as we always do the pre meal noodle count. I’m glad they know the standard measurements for noodles. They were pretty plain, like Jayne my ex. Let’s just say she wasn’t very adventurous;)x if you’re reading this I love and forgive you! Buy our merch in the comment section, fortune cookies, was £5.99 now £5.98, buy 1 get none free! Last but not least was the chicken which was gorgeous, glorious and gardening! DAVE GET BACK TO BED! Sorry our son just came down crying about gardening, we meant to say green! This chicken was very nice and the use of veg was vegarious which loosely translated in Malaysian means Ducklings. Which is relatively decent. It was crispy on the inside and fluffy on the outside, like a duckling. We would recommend this chicken to all of our friends, but we don’t have any, we dedicate all our time to you guys making sure you always get the food you deserve! Remember to like and subscribe, this isn’t the life we chose, but it is our life we give up for you for just the small wage of £1.76 per hour, to share! "I have eaten tappas here quite a few times over the past few years, so I was looking forward to my last visit on a Thursday evening. The place was quiet, with only 2 other tables in use on our side of the restaurant. Food was not good, and service was very slow My Husband accidentally spilled half a pint of lager all over the table and floor where he was sat, and despite pointing this out to the waitress, no one came to clean it up, so he sat for half an hour in a puddle of lager! several of our favourite tappas were sold out, and this on a quiet weekday evening. Meatballs were in a bland sauce that tasted of tinned tomatoes only, and they were burnt, literally black on top. Despite asking for the dessert menu, no one came to ask if we wanted a dessert, and a portion of chips/patatas fritas if you can call 20 chips in a tiny basket a portion), came after all plates had been cleared at the end of the meal. God knows how they cope on a busy night. Food was expensive and some portions too small lamb chops) given the price £11. The mushrooms in garlic and parsley sauce were very salty, and the paella was small and again bland. One good point, the pate was nice, and a decent portion, but the rest Meh. No one came to ask if we were happy with the food either. Could not wait to pay and leave, and unfortunately, we will not be back."

"after a nice Christmas time in '16, we used the keys again for our 2017 meal. on the advance until the day the communication was really easy, and if there was a delay in the answer, it was not more than a few days. we were advised about the best meal times to choose with allergies, and the beverage packages that were available to us. in the night our drinks package was put on the table and we could sit and relax. one of our party ran late, but it was 't a problem that we communicated with the personal and they held our meals back for us. the eating was nice, the personal was really attentive and we had another amazing night."
