"Some of the best cooking I have ever had has not been at fancy restaurants, but places where people put a lot of effort into getting things right, and they get it right. They don't try to do things that they can't do; they cook the food that has been cooked for generations and they do it well, every day.Le Bruegel is on such place. It has been on my radar for several years, being a few miles from the Belgian border: a small detour from our route back home. Usually, we have been too late or too early, but circumstances favour those who plan in advance, and so we sat down in the restaurant on a cold Monday lunchtime in February. My chicory gratin was delicious, Not everyone likes this wonderful leafy vegetable, with a taste somewhere between white asparagus and celery, bitter and sweet, unctious and slightly caramelised. Such people are deluded. This was bathed in a maroilles sauce with lardons to deter vegetarians from stealing my lunch. My wife's Coquilles St Jacques, also au gratin, were tender and sweet. She followed this with chicken cooked in local beer. I did sneak a bit and it was also very good indeed. My pavé surmounted with local Bergues cheese was perfectly cooked, and came with obviously hand cooked chips. We did not have room for dessert, except for the vicarous pleasure of watching others eat it.Our friendly waitress insisted on practising her English, which was better than she claimed it to be! Excellent."

"we are enchanted that we have selected the aubette based on TripAdvisor reviews. a very short walk from the beffroi, the aubette is in a public park even a Zen delight well a walk before or after lunch. we had great joy to eat outside quietly at lunchtime. surrounded by towering trees, wide grasses, bushes in all shades of green. a perfect place for every age. we ordered: garnelen croquettes: 3 croquettes, mixed salat, french french fries. best. cabillaud cooked in banana leaves with mild green curry and carrot slices. this dish comes with rice, but when I said I don't need the rice waiter offered to it through a ratatouille, the red paprika, tomato and mushrooms. this ratatouille was tender and light, freshly tasting, really wonderful. the cabillaud was also perfectly cooked. the cook has the fine, rare, art of cooking sweet and, here, fish, at its perfect temperature, so that the food is cooked, but fresh and taste fineness is preserved and improved. a fine, gustative experience, a court I swore slowly. the homemade mayonnaise was today also so rare a small but telling sign of aubettes hingabe on quality. for lovers of ice cream is the aubette one must experience the creamy, natural tasting aromas, the delicious coulis must be experienced. our waitress was very pleasant, attentive, professional. the waiting time was perfect. for our meal: 2 main dishes, 2 ice deserts, 1 beer, 1 wein, i mineral water we paid 50euros an excellent value. highly recommended. I'm just sorry I didn't make a picture of them."

"I recently had the pleasure of having dinner in this restaurant and I have to say that it was an exceptional experience from beginning to end. As soon as I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by attentive and professional staff. The restaurant atmosphere was elegant and friendly, creating a pleasant atmosphere to spend a memorable evening. Now, let's talk about food. Every dish I ordered was simply delicious. The flavours were perfectly balanced and the fresh ingredients were clearly of first quality. I particularly enjoyed the chef's signature dishes, which were both creative and tasty. The portions were generous, and each bite was a real treat for taste buds. The service was impeccable throughout the meal. The staff was attentive to all the details and made sure we didn't miss anything. They were also very skilled in wine recommendations, which added an extra touch to our culinary experience. With regard to the value-for-price ratio, I think this restaurant offers a real added value. Prices are reasonable given the exceptional quality of food, service and atmosphere. It is certainly a place where I will come back with pleasure and I will recommend to my friends and family. Overall, I had a wonderful evening in this restaurant. Everything, from welcome to dessert, was perfect. If you are looking for an exceptional culinary experience, I strongly recommend visiting this restaurant. You won't be disappointed"

"We enjoyed our meal at Cornet d'or very much. The hostess could not speak any English, but made us very welcome and we managed to communicate with our somewhat basic command of the French language. It could be a bit of a struggle if you visit the restaurant with no French language skills at all! We ordered from the 23 Euro menu- (for two courses if I remember correctly) so not expensive. There is an excellent wine list (a huge book)!, and our aperitif was lovely. The little tart made with a local cheese, as a starter was delicious- simple but with a lovely flavour and excellent pastry. One of us started with Nem a sort of crispy pancake with spices and pork, which was , we think, a Thai/Vietnamese dish. It was also very good. Two of us had salmon with a creamy risotto containing little pieces of smoked salmon and confit tomatoes. This was beautifully cooked and full of flavour- again, excellent. The sausage served with fondant potatoes was much appreciated and tasty. We were all very happy with our food, the Sancerre was beautiful and we didn't need dessert! The cusine isn't totally French, just well put together ingredients and very competently cooked. We were here for lunch and it was a very windy day in low season, so we were the only people in the restaurant, so it is probably quite a different experience when it is busy or the evening. The dining room was lovely, with a very homely feel, yet smart enough to feel special. It is not cheap, but is good value for the price as the cooking is of a good standard. The only small negative comment would be that the radio was a little irritating! Maybe just some quiet music from a CD or whatever would have been a bit nicer, and complete silence would have been worse!. But this didn't spoil our meal!We would return to Cornet d'or again quite happily, and would recommend it based on our visit. The little town is also lovely- and only about 40 minutes from Calais."
