"An Italian friend of mine had raved about this restaurant, so I said to let me know the next time she went. So on a Saturday evening 10 of us went to El Rey to eat. The place was decorated very nicely, bright colours and with very cheerful and efficient staff. The menu offered a relatively wide range of dishes. The resturant was much larger than I had expected from the little pub area outside. So far, so good. Then I ordered a Margarita. Hmmmm...perhaps the worst one I have ever had, it tasted like it had been made from some industrial powder pre-mix, just sour and strong. Maybe it is hard to get fresh ripe limes here in Italy. I didn't order another. On to the food. I ordered guacamole and enchaladas verdes. Hmmmm...not that they were bad as such, but both seemed to indicate that they had been prepared some time ago. I am a real guacamole freak, love the stuff. But although there was a large portion served, and with lots of chips (that did look home-made , the taste was not very exciting, any lime or spices were hardly detectable and the whole thing just seemed very bland and as if it had been made a good while before serving (also indicated by the colour of the avocado puré . Edible, but not the real pleasure that I get when making guacamole myself at home. Likewise with the enchaladas. The main flavour was salt, other spices were either absent or masked by the salt (which could have been better used in the guacamole . The dish appeared as a somewhat soggy, bland (but salty mass that had been prepared a long time earlier and re-heated. Our group was drinking beer by the pitcher, which maybe was OK, but with all the great microbreweries around these days, I don't drink much major brand beer anymore. However, it seemed to go down well with the others, so I guess I shouldn't fault it. If I had been alone, I would have tried one of the Mexican beers, there were a good number on offer. All in all, not a very exciting experience. Edible, but a far cry from the real thing. Even the other dishes that I sampled from my friends were only just OK. Maybe the problem is that the place is just too big, and it is very difficult to serve freshly-made food when there are crowds. Maybe the experience would be different on a normal weekday evening instead of on a crowded Saturday. But I am not sure I am inspired to try it again..."

"We had a good time. Dinner paid with a voucher bought on Groupon for €39.90, 4 courses for two people, much cheaper than the menu. Meanwhile, the reception was very kind, they even let our dog in, and the bathrooms were very clean. The place is the classic restaurant housed in the premises of the bathing establishment, so a few tables inside, several outside, some facing the sea. Like all these restaurants, it has very simple decor, no decorations on the table, but I think it's more about how you ate than the aesthetics we are very practical and not very chic customers! Meanwhile, with the coupon the choice is (rightly) reduced to two dishes per course, but they were still excellent alternatives. Starters: warm seafood, good, and salmon marinated with Greek yogurt, very original and I must say good, fresh and tasty, both on a bed of cherry tomatoes and rocket. First courses: tagliolini with seafood, they told me they were good although perhaps a little tasty, and trofie with courgettes, aubergines, prawns and curry, which I found good, with the curry giving flavor but not excessively spicy, so for all tastes, I I really liked the abundance of vegetables in the pasta. As a second course: fried shrimp and squid, good, soft, it was neither heavy nor greasy, better than many other places, and cod on a bed of rocket and cherry tomatoes (which we find everywhere), with baked white onion, which I liked , maybe this too is a little salty but we know that cod is already salty on its own, good. The choice of desserts was not wide, all packaged, but we had a very good coffee cream with cream. However, all abundant dishes. There were a lot of people, many of them had pizza, we promised ourselves to come back and try that too, they have a wood fired oven. Perhaps the only flaw is that there are few waiters, and the poor things travel non stop. Despite this, perfect service. Approved, we will be back."

"We stumbled up to Colonata while looking for the Marble Quarry visitors location. We asked a local at the 'Larderia ' and she pointed us up to Osteria Nella Pia. This is a simple Osteria but served excellent food. Unknown ot us, Lardo is a local speciality which is sort of pork fat cured into a delicate solid white as Carrera Marble. It is served thinly sliced or mixed with Pasta or other dishes. Definietly worth a try if you 're in the area. We are mostly vegetarian and were a little perplexed when we looked at the menu but ordered the Tagliatelli with Lardo and Olives Superb. the Duck (Anatra) with Lardo was one of the best Duck dishes we have tasted anywhere and rivals the best ever Duck in China or Paris. We did send the last few slices of duck back for an extra minute cooking as it was serve quite rare but superb. The kids had a pasta dish and I asked for a plate of fresh sliced tomato and with some ground salt and lashing of Olive oil the meal was one of the best in 6 weeks of travelling in Italy finished with delkicious Pear and chocolate Tort and the Almond biscotti which you dip into a saterne. All freshly cooked and made ingredients.Tthe village is also tiny and unusual perched on a ridge overlooking the Marble quarries. When you arrive in Colonnata, as you ascend into the village, follow the 'P ' for parking on the left, park and walk less than a minute to the restaurant and village. you can;t get lost !"
